Audible Deepens Investment in Premium Spanish-Language Storytelling

As Audible continues working to broaden the Spanish-language audio entertainment landscape, we celebrated creators at an event in Mexico City attended by authors, producers, performers and publishers.
Audible’s Chief Content Officer Rachel Ghiazza opened the event, welcoming attendees and praising the rich cultural heritage and creativity of Mexico City, which made it the perfect location for Audible’s reaffirmed commitment to Spanish-language audio content.
The moment is ripe, as there are 486 million native Spanish speakers in the world, and they only have access to an estimated 49,000 audio titles in their native language. For the past 20 years, Audible has been helping to close that gap by distributing Spanish-language content, as well as producing more and more of that content over the last decade by collaborating with leading production studios, recruiting local narrators, and incorporating innovative technologies like Dolby Surround and Dolby Atmos to provide a truly immersive listening experience.
“Today, Audible is at the forefront of the growth of Spanish-language audio storytelling content worldwide, and our significant investments in Mexico and Mexican creators underscore our dedication to nurturing local creativity and bringing Mexican stories to the world,” said Anasofía Sánchez Juárez, Country Manager of Mexico.
Ghiazza also announced a new collaboration with Amazon that makes it easier for Mexican customers to discover and listen to Audible’s Spanish-language content directly from the local Amazon Mexico website, while getting title recommendations specific to Mexican audiences and interests.
As part of the evening’s program, attendees were treated to a live musical performance by Grammy Award-winning Mexican-American musician Lila Downs. Mariel Lopez-Mota, an associate director of Audible books acquisitions for Latin America, sat down for an intimate conversation with Downs and writer Elvira Liceaga about their collaboration on The Tree of Life, an upcoming Audible Original releasing September 15, and the power of storytelling to convey personal narratives, cultural heritage and the complexities of multicultural identity.
Afterward, Manny Miravete, senior director of Spanish-language original content at Audible, moderated a panel with Latin American creators to discuss bringing storytelling to life through immersive audio experiences, as well as the benefits of working with Audible.
Sánchez Juárez thanked the Spanish-language creators and publishers in the audience for helping Audible craft compelling audio experiences. “You are the dream-weavers,” she said, “the voices that accompany millions on their daily journeys, the storytellers who keep age-old traditions alive while forging new paths in narrative art. We are honored to work with you and to help your artistry reach eager listeners across the globe.”
