Audible Celebrates Release of “The Sandman” with “Drawn From The Dreaming”

The Sandman fans got a chance to have their dreams turned into comic book art through a social campaign created by Audible and DC Comics called “Drawn from The Dreaming.” The campaign invited listeners to submit a description of a memorable dream to the drawnfromthedreaming.com website, or to share it via a hotline narrated by creator Neil Gaiman, who served as fans’ guide through the experience. Select fan-submitted dreams were then illustrated by top DC artists, including several original artists from the graphic novels like Kelley Jones and Colleen Doran, in addition to Mike Allred, Aaron Campbell, Max Fiumara, Tom Fowler, Tony Harris, Teddy Kristiansen, Domo Stanton, Matt Wagner and more.

Each dream drawing was overlaid with a unique audio clip from The Sandman with drawings still being shared daily on the campaign’s Instagram @DrawnFromTheDreaming, including submissions from celebrity fans such as The Sandman director Dirk Maggs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Aisha Tyler, LeVar Burton and more. All participants received an exclusive free audio episode from The Sandman, including a brief overview of the story told by Neil Gaiman himself.

With the original plan to create a live event at San Diego Comic Con last summer scrapped when the event was canceled due to Covid-19, “We wanted to create something that resonates with the massive audience of sci-fi and fantasy and that showcases the cinematic audio of this production while also allowing people to participate,” said Sara Moscowitz, SVP of content marketing and merchandising at Audible. “Additionally, we sought to include these amazingly talented DC artists.”

Audible extended this campaign for New York Comic Con (NYCC) this fall. This time, fans were invited to submit a description of a memorable dream via Audible’s virtual booth at NYCC. The campaign re-launched nationally to consumers on Thursday, October 8 through Sunday, October 11. Thirty dreams were selected, and each winner received a printed lithograph of their dream, which was sent to them directly as a keepsake.

Adapted and directed by Dirk Maggs and narrated by Neil Gaiman, who serves as creative director and co-executive producer, The Sandman features a cast led by James McAvoy and including Riz Ahmed, Kat Dennings, Taron Egerton, Bebe Neuwirth, Michael Sheen and Andy Serkis. The first installment of the multi-part original audio drama series is available on Audible.
