Nonetheless, I was not wild about butch, thinking him only a minor character, and disliking his OCD taste in fine clothes.
Boy was I in for a trip when I read this. Butch ROCKS, Miranda is so amazing, and I love her transition. Vicious has definitely shown his strange side, perhaps worst than Z's used to be.
As more of this world develops, I am smitten and addicted.

I admit I love Revenge too. Can't wait for his story.
Oh and this does not lack in sexy scenes. The tender scene in hospital is hot! That's all I'll say. :)

This is the 5th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The series is darkly emotional and extremely erotic and sexual. I really love this seri..Show More »es and its twist on vampires but you have to take the brothers as you get them which is not always pleasant! I get the feeling that some of the other reviewers had no history from reading the first 4 books and read this book on its own. In this books case it would be hard to understand and like on its own. This book is about Vishous and Jane and their story together. Vishous is a pretty messed up male. You learn alot about his upbringing in this book which helps you undertand why he is the way he is. It is about control and giving it up and learning to trust another. Though Vishous might have bisexual tendencies from his upbringing you realize he has confused his love of Butch for something else. Since Butch is the first person he has had feelings for in 300 years this is understandable. This isn't my favorite of the BDB books but still an excellent story even if I cringe some in parts! JR Ward is an excellent author and I like the narrator as he has a very masculine voice. He has done all of the books. His inflections don't change much between person to person though, especially with the females.
Don't skip this book as like all the other books there are alot of other sub-stories going on and you are introduced to characters that will play important roles in the 6th book. Also, don't listen to this book without starting at the beginning of the series as they are all on audible now.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is very addictive reading! Once you've read one, you'll be clamoring to read the next. But be forewarned, these ..Show More »aren't your regular run of the mill romances. These books are darkly emotional and explicitly sexual.

Like all of the other books in this series, several storylines are developed. We get introduced to a new Lesser, Mr. D, and follow him as he does the work of The Omega in a most surprising way. We also learn more about Rehvenge, a preview of his story in book 7. Newly transitioned John Matthew and his buddies are also followed. I'm very invested in this storyline. I really liked following the story of these guys from their pre-trans stage to post-trans. And I'm so looking forward to their stories as they become warriors and also fall in love.

I have noticed that some people have been disappointed with the love story between Phury and Cormia. I have to disagree. The romance between them was satisfying. The book may not have spent as much time on them as the other pairings were in previous books, but their romance develops slowly, romantically. Their story is just as emotionally charged as the others. By the end of the book, you are aching for them to get together.

A note to those who are thinking of starting this series in the middle: To really appreciate this series, I recommend starting from the beginning and reading the books in order. (Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened, Lover Revealed, Lover Unbound, Lover Enshrined, Lover Avenged) My personal favorites are Lover Eternal and Lover Awakened, but all of them are great.

This is the longest BDB books at about 24 hours and it was hard to put down my earphones for any of it. I think this is one of the best books so far ..Show More »closely tied with #3 Lover Awakened (Zhadist/Bella) and #4 Lover Revealed (Butch/Marissa). I thought this installment was emotionally deeper then the last couple of books or maybe I just had a hard time liking Phury and/or relating to Vishous. This book is about Rehvenge and Ehlena and had alot of twists and turns as they all do but I felt more empathy for these two characters. This book also delved a little more into John and Zhex and there was quite a bit about Wrath and Beth too. I can't wait for the next book, Lover Mine due out in April 2010. If you haven't read this series you need to start at the beginning with Dark Lover and work your way forward, its a series you shouldn't skip around in as one leads to another. They are very darkly emotionally and highly sexual in nature.

This book was good but not as emotionally satisfying as some of the others. Payne was as advertised. She had that mix of innocence and warrior whic..Show More »h is pretty much what I expected from her. Manny was pretty much what I expected too. Loner who doesn't know he's missing anything out of life but suddenly finds his shellan and "Mine." It was a little too quick and I think that's the problem. The pacing on this book is off. The storyline didn't really have time to develop in the week or so the book covers.


Payne's hurt, Manny gives her sexual healing, Manny can't deal with the vampires and Payne’s impact on him for like six hours, Payne's kidnapped and rescues herself in one night, Manny finds out he's Butch's half-brother and Manny/Payne have sex, the end. Okay, hard to get invested in that storyline. True.


The best part of the book was V/Butch/Jane. Poor Marissa is barely mentioned except to nod approvingly as Butch goes off to fix V. The emotional dynamic between V/Butch and to some extent Jane is just terrific. Love how Butch knew what to do to help. V and Jane's resolution was satisfying. Love the bond and the humor between them all.


Not enough Blay/Quinn. Ward keeps teasing her readers with this couple. If she continues to tease her readers with will they/won't they for too long with no payoff, nothing she writes is going to be enough to satisfy the people who are invested in the m/m couple. She's already said she can't sell a whole book on these two because her readership won't support it so get on with the novella and give fans of Blay/Quinn a break.


The new guys are interesting. Definitely a hook for future books. Not enough of the other brothers. No Rhage humor, no Phury/Zadist to speak of. The shellans must all be on vacation because I don't remember seeing/hearing anything about them.


Overall a decent read but not one I want to listen too over and over except for the Butch/V parts.

This is how a book should be written AND narrated - perfect in every way. Brilliant, this was definitely the best yet - if you have missed this serie..Show More »s then get downloading - you won't be sorry. Curve ball after curve ball is thrown into the storyline.

I'm sad that I've finished it - but I can finally get my life back because I couldn't stop listening to it but, if you happen to read this JRW, then just give me a couple of weeks to get my housework done - then I'm all yours again and ready for the next installment.

Worth a credit? Oh yea - don't tell Audible but I'd spend 2, 3 or 4 (yea I'm that sad!!)

All you BDB fans out there will appreciate that I stopped the book I was listening to, got up at the crack of dawn and desperately downloaded this VER..Show More »Y anticipated book. To say words like good, great, awesome just doesn't do justice to the multi-layered stories JRW produces in these books and this one in particular seemed to be filled with so much more - more sub plots and sub sub plots - yes this is a riveting listen - so be warned - once you start listening it'll just hook you right in.

This was mainly Qhuinn and Blay's story which was soooo touching, tender, heartbreaking, tense, sad, frustrating (your mind screams "just tell him"), misunderstandings, oh I could go on and on but.... it's also full on with the M/M erotic hot love scenes so be warned coz if you can't appreciate that this is who and what they are, two people in love, and don't like listening to it then maybe just skip this one and wait for book 12.

This was also the start of new love stories, continued threats to the BDB Kingdom and Wrath in particular, evil deeds done by the Lessers, conspiracies, deadly partnerships, new characters etc etc etc that the book never get dull because JRW just brings more and more to the party - and long may that continue.

Worth a credit? It's 22.22 hrs of paranormal perfection on a mind blowing scale and so, daaa - of course I'm gonna say YES.
