Firstly, I cannot compare this awesome listen to FSOG as I haven't yet listened to the raved over book but all I can do is review this one.
T..Show More »his book totally consumed me as it unfolded to tell the heart renching story of two previously sexually abused people slowly learning to trust in each other, letting go of their pasts and eventually love again. I fell in love with Gideon not because he was handsome, filthy rich, successful at everything he did but because he was sooo vulnerable, caring and thoughtful when it came to Eva. He thought his life was just fine and wanted for nothing....... until he met her eyes - then sparks flew and they very quickly turned into embers which ignited into burning hot flames of passion filled pages.
Good plot, great primary and secondary characters and lots of 'hot and heavy' all go into the mix to create a well written and well narrated exceptional listen.
Worth a credit? DEFINATELY, TOTALLY and ABSOLUTELY YES.
Hot, sexy, fit, late twenty-something billionaire who built his empire from scratch before turning 30 despite having a traumatic past immediately beco..Show More »mes obsessed with young twenty-something girl who is pretty and doesn't know it and despite beginning the sexcapades more like a business transaction and swearing he doesn't do the relationship thing, he immediately fall in love, plasters his walls with giant pictures of her and become super possesive, stalkerish, and jealous of anything with a penis.
Wait. What book am I reviewing? Oh yeah.
Christian... Oops! I mean Gideon... is the kind of guy who ignores a girl then when she gets upset tells her he wasn't that he only sees her, then screws her brains out and goes back to ignoring her. Her is Eva, not Ana, and she's constantly looking for something wrong with this guy she's so drawn to. The nightmare rape and real rape while the guy is having a nightmare only bothers her for a few hours before they do it again. Drama drama drama. There was so much forced drama that lead to sex that it really got old quick. Too much sexy time can chafe. These kinds of relationships are so friggin unhealthy and if it were real life there'd be a restraining order involved.
But it's not real life, it's an erotic novel. And as my friend tells me, I need to quit analyzing this stuff as a real story and just appreciate it for the hot and sexy romp that it is. I try, I really do. But I can't help myself... like... you may notice that every single person, even the bit players in the book, are sexy. The roommate, the cab driver, the boss, the boss's boyfriend, the secretary at the front desk... the office assistant... EVERYONE is HOT.
Story - Okay, it's my fault. I listened to Bared to You and Reflected in You and didn't learn my lesson about this series. The problem is that I lo..Show More »ve the story of Ava and Gideon, their tortured pasts and their hot chemistry... but I'm getting really bored with the constant sex. There's a saying that applies here, "Less is more."
The first two books had a great story line but in this one the story stagnates. Except for some good stuff toward the end, it's all over the place with side characters and little filler subplots. Why? This isn't the conclusion to the trilogy we expected, so the author adds stupid fluff to stretch the series. Think about this ... five books for a romance??? I'm torn whether to continue with the series. I want to see everything tied up with a big happy bow, but I fear Gideon and Ava will just F*#& for 15 of the next 20 book-hours and then die stuck together.
Narrator - Love the narrator. She's got a velvety, sexy voice, and she can do a pretty good guy voice too! Her performance lends class to the story.
Overall - If you like lots and lots of steamy sex, you will love this book. Otherwise, you might find it boring.
I am unsure on how to rate this book. I really liked the book but I am emotionally drained from listening to it. I was so invested in the characters a..Show More »nd the story line and the hits kept on coming. I am trying to be objective considering the fact that it is the 4th in a 5 book series so I knew there would be no satisfaction at the end. The books spans over a 3 week period in their relationship so it can't be resolved. If you understand the process of healing from sexual abuse you will get what she was getting at. She needed to develop that side of Gideon POV and that process is emotional and difficult to get through. Having said that, the Brett Kline thing was disappointing and I wish it would have been left out. If you are invested in this series , you will enjoy this book but please be prepared for the roller coaster ride and understand that is purely character development and no significant advances in the storyline. So in a direct appeal to Silvia Day. If you are at all reading your reviews. Thank you for showing the male perspective of a sexual abuse survivor and the consequences if you have not dealt with it. But please ........... for book # 5 let them both find their strength and claim their life. Finish their story line where it was worth for us to invest 3 years into this series. Skip the cookie cutter way out and span it over a few years not just weeks. If there ever was an extensive Happy Ending needed it would be in this series. Considering the time investment of the readers. I sincerely hope to see "One with you"published within a few months. Not years!!
The dual narration by Jill Redfield , Jeremy York was good. But Jill Redfield was so good with the delivery of the series I felt the added narrator was unnecessary.
