Publisher's summary

Ziggy: I'm the youngest player on the National Soccer team, the baby of my family, and sick of being underestimated, so I've decided to take matters into my own hands. Which is where my brother's best friend and teammate, Sebastian, comes in.

Seb needs to rehab his reputation. I want to give mine an edge. So I propose a fake friendship with real benefits: spending time in the public eye, my good-girl image and his bad-boy notoriety rubbing off on each other. He's my devious, dark-haired fantasy come to life, but his destructive ways make it easy to keep him in the (fake) friend zone. Or so I thought.

Sebastian: I've been spiraling downward, and finally I've hit rock bottom. My hockey career and sponsorships are in jeopardy, and while I'm not ready to reform my ways, I'm happy to pretend that I have, to secure the life I'm on the brink of losing.

So when Ziggy proposes a public "friendship" to revamp our reputations, it's an offer I can't refuse. Up till now, I've stayed away from Ren's little sister to avoid any risk of ruining my one good friendship. But I reassure myself there's no risk in our scheme. I'll fake a friendship with Ziggy, fix my reputation, and get back to hockey.

Talk about a Slooooow Burn!

I absolutely loved this book. Ziggy and Seb were the ultimate slowburn. I really loved watching their friendship develop and mature through the book. I relistened to all of the previous books before this one which made it an extra special treat to see how Ziggy has matured since we first met the Bergman family. I'm so appreciative of Chloe Liese for including characters from the previous books quite often. This really is a series about family. (And an A-frame cabin with what seems to be special powers). 😆

I also really appreciate the representation in this book. As a neurotypical person it is really informative for me to see some of the struggles that Ziggy deals with. I felt the same way about Axel's book.

It was also amazing to have CJ Bloom and Nelson Hobbs back as the character narrators. I still wish Nelson Hobbs would have narrated with Tim Paige on Oliver and Gavin's book. Regardless, CJ Bloom and Nelson Hobbs do amazing and make this a very fun read. The wait for Viego's book is going to be hard!

Chloe’s books = perfection

Opposites attract, friends to lovers, fake relationship, slow burn, meddlesome family members, familiar faces- just perfect.

Chloe’s Books Only Get Better

Another knock out from The Bergman Brothers series! CJ Bloom & Nelson Hobbs do an excellent job of bringing Ziggy & Seb’s story to life! This is definitely a top book of the year for me!

The Bergman Series is so good!

Love this author! Love this series! A lot of narrative payoff and I really like the hero in this one. :) Ziggy is the best. Looking forward to a Viggo book!

THE BERGMANS NEVER DISAPPOINT!

I have been dying for Ziggy's book and honestly, it was exactly what I wanted.

* Sports romance (FMC is a soccer player and MMC is a hockey player)
* Fake friends that turns into more
* the most delicious and slowest of slow burns (it's worth it - I promise!)
* amazing chemistry
* Bergman family meddling (obvs)
* NO THIRD ACT BREAK-UP
* Autism rep

Chloe always has the perfect balance of romance, character growth, and relationship development in her books. Both Ziggy and Seb need each other for different reasons and watching their fake friendship turn to real friendship and then into something more, was honestly just so heartwarming. I LOVED these two. Their banter was great and their own individual character growth added so much to their relationship arc.

Also, Ziggy's love for Fantasy Romance (Romantasy) just was the cherry on top for me - like, Chloe throwing in a wings scene... IYKYK!

EASY 5 STARS!

IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BERGMAN'S.... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING ON?? I cannot wait for Viggo's book!!

Also, the audiobook was amazing!

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for an ARC of this book - all opinions are my own!

Really enjoyed!

I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and full of heart and humor. The Bergman series is one of my favorites and I can’t wait for Viggo’s story! Chloe is an exceptional author, she tells Ziggy and Sebastian’s story with so much warmth and understanding. Like many of her previous works, this story has positive neurodivergent representation that is articulated with great care.

What’s with all the good reviews?

The narration made this insufferable. The narrator made even a simple BLT sound melodramatic. Just a nonstop eye roll fest until I finally dnf. Waste of a credit for sure.

Meh all around.

First to start with narration. The female narrator was sooo quiet. I had to turn my volume up so loud. Then the male came in and was normal volume so had to turn it down a bunch. Back and forth for every turn. So annoying.
The story. I’m trying to figure out how this is a romance. I didn’t get any romance from it. 2 friends find out they love each other at the very end of the book. Pacing just so off. Ziggy says she wishes everyone can see her as an adult woman and then tickles and boops everyone and can’t handle people cussing. Even to say “language” and “naughty naughty” when the hero is vocal during sex. So off putting. And now the hero who’s a “bad boy” but actually not at all lol. Just such a weird vibe all around. I hate that I have to finish series after I start them.
