Publisher's summary

In a war of hearts, fates will be sealed. But in a battle of thrones, no bond may be truly unbreakable.

A COURT . . .

To reclaim her throne, Tauria leaves behind her safety to travel across courts. A marriage alliance with the prickly Prince of Olmstone could grant her the power to fight for her kingdom . . . or inspire a monarch's deadly vengeance that threatens all she holds dear.

A BOND . . .

No amount of distance can make Nik forget his desires, but caught in a torturous conflict of heart against duty, he's at risk of losing both. Now is the time to choose. Claim the bond and accept the prophesy that kept him from her all this time . . . or set his aching heart-and hers-free once and for all.

A DARKNESS . . .

But peace is never promised when the shadow of war looms, and Tauria's harrowing discoveries foretell a damning fate of evil to all those who bear a crown. To love may be to condemn, but to deny would be a far deadlier curse at the hands of the sinister forces intent on taking them down.

Good but slow

I love the world building and characters. The arch is reeeeallly slow but the pay off at the end makes you want to read book 5

Great story!

They story is great but the pace too slow. it's a great read just full of angst and emotional turmoil. More fierce heroin action would make this perfect. The story drags at times but is worth reading every word.

Love

This book takes place during the same timeframe as book 3, but focuses on Nik/Tauria and Jackon/Marlowe’s perspectives. We get a lot of unanswered questions resolved. Really enjoyed it !

Amazing, love this series!

I love this series! This book was no exception. So glad to have a book dedicated to knowing what was going on with Nick and Tauria and Jackon and Marlowe. This book was filled with mystery, politics, romance (of course), action, and power. The author really took us for a ride in this one. Amazing writing! Thank you Chloe! Can’t wait for the next book to hit audio!

This series is simply everything! Buy it!!!

This series leaves you with a major book hangover! I went through all kinds of emotions while reading this, and it takes a lot for a book to do that to me these days. I read roughly two-three books a week (audible or otherwise). I simply couldn't get enough of this series! After this book, I caved and read the trending book Fourth Wing book, and while Fourth Wing was good, I quickly returned to this series to read the next book on Kindle. I love books where several different plots are occurring at once that allow you to fall in love with several different stories and pairs of characters. This book and series does that, which makes it like ACOTAR, but somehow more mature and in-depth like the assassin's blade. This series is a rare jewel, and everyone who loves badass fantasy with hardcore/ complex characters and fantasy romance without any teen angst should read this one. It is everything you never knew you needed. It's like it combined all of the things I loved in every fantasy book I read and combined it into this series. This book starts off seriously slow, but it's necessary to build the suspense up to unbearable levels to take the reader for the ride of their lives. People complained about the narrator, and while I was disappointed they switched from the narrator in the first book of this series, the change wasn't as horrible as people made it out to be.

In this book, there is excellent mystery, action, suspense, romance, world-building, twists and turns, etc. It's an emotional rollercoaster. I was seriously worried my favorites wouldn't make it out unscathed and I nearly broke beneath the suspense, but in a way I thoroughly enjoyed- lol. And now, I happily reading the next book in the series after having shed a few tears of sappy happiness from this book's ending.

Interesting story, lagging pace

Loving the story. It’s interesting and I’m here for it. However, the pace of this book was much slower, and I hate that Tauria didn’t get more moments to be her badass self. There were too many moments when she was floundering and not enough where she showed her incredible strength. Just a little disappointing how her character was stripped down so much (I think that’s what slowed down the pace too much). I’m still here for the twists and turns, and I remain hopeful that it just keeps getting better!

So invested!

I’m so invested at this point there’s no turning back. Happier with the narrator now compared to book 2. But I still feel like the voices of the male characters are too “breathy” for my liking but it’s just a preference :) good job though
