Publisher's summary

Secrets, suspense, and a missing sister—who may not want to be found—are at the center of Briana Cole's latest enthralling multicultural drama. Will appeal to fans of psychological suspense, gritty drama, and fans of De'Nesha Diamond, Kiki Swinson, Saundra, Wahida Clark, Ashley & JaQuavis, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Shelly Ellis.

"That's not my sister." Overwhelmed by shock and relief, those are the only words Deven can muster when she is called to identify the body of a suicide victim. A body she was informed was her sister, Kennedy. But as she stares at the lifeless stranger, she's filled with questions: Who is this woman? Why was Deven listed as family? And most important, where is Kennedy? Her intuition tells her just one thing: this can't be a total coincidence.

Desperate to put the pieces together, Deven launches her own investigation. Soon, she finds herself tangled in a web of secrets and lies so twisted that it blurs the lines between fact and fiction. And between the sister she thought she knew and the one who seems to have many hidden, dangerous lives. But only Kennedy would have the answers to increasingly urgent questions. Just one possibility is clear: Kennedy isn't missing. Maybe she just doesn't want to be found. And maybe you can never truly know another person. Even your own sister.

Intriguing

The story is very suspenseful with strong characters. Plenty of plot twists that will keep you guessing. Very depressing ending, though

Monotone Narration

I am about an hour into this book, so not too sure if the storyline will develop into something more interesting. I don’t know if I can continue to listen to find out. The narration is terrible! So monotone and robotic, it distracts from the story.

Black Friday Walmart Purchase

I purchased the book at Walmart on Black Friday something I never do. I read half the book and then started listening to it on audible. The performance was pretty good overall because I can’t listen to entire books if the voice is annoying. The story ended up being pretty good with the person looking for her sister possibly being the reason she is gone. The hidden hate and openly displayed loved of sibling rivalry was captured excellently in this book.

Nope

This one wasn't even worth the 2.99 sale price.
I really NEED to preview the narration for all books before purchasing because the narration ruined this one.

Good storyline however....

The narrators voice was nice but the narration was not great, I struggled to get through the audible reading of the book.

Entertaining

The narrator did an amazing job. The story was entertaining. However, I felt like there were a few unanswered questions, there were parts of the story that seemed unfinished, and a tad bit unrealistic.

Disappointing story and stilted narration

Wouldn’t recommend this one - I had the main plot twist figured out very early on and it was a frustrating and disappointing one at that. The book felt like it was thrown together last minute with a lot of nonsense and fluff and characters that didn’t have much weight or even purpose. They’d come in for a mouthed then never be seen or mentioned again. Overall the story was sad and a slog to get through and the ending left so many loose ends and just felt like she got as tired writing jt as I did reading it. The narration was ok but challenging to stick with - very monotone with so many pauses and breaks. Ended up turning it up to 2x speed just to get through it.

Seldom do I review but this one required it.

I think this book would have been better read than listened to. The narrator was distractingly and halting in her reading. I finished the listen but it took perseverance to do it. Story line was decent and easily followed.

Hard to get through!

A narrator can make or break the audio version of a book, this was a definite break. The story line wasn’t bad and I did listen to to the whole book but it wasn’t easy. Either the narrator needs to work on her reading and intonation or the author needs to find someone else for the job!

Pedestrian Plot, Terrible Narrator

This book was disappointing on many levels.

The narrator was extremely distracting in that she paused slightly after every two to five words throughout the book, even when she was reading dialog. ("Paul's name was shown - on her screen - along with the timer - indicating his impromptu call - only 23 seconds prior.") This resulted in a stilted, choppy delivery, more like someone reading a book aloud that someone providing a narrative.

The plot was also weak, with characters coming and going more for the convenience of the author than to provide a realistic arc of the story. And the ending was more than a little contrived.

Definitely a waste of a credit.
