Publisher's summary

After the unthinkable, would you know what to do?

With a four-legged companion and no food in the pantry, Grant Walton faces an uphill battle. His wife is still missing; downtown is a smoldering crater; and radiation is killing more people every day. Torn between searching for his wife and gearing up for what's sure to come, Grant is forced to put more than his morals to the test.

A nuclear attack wounds long after the explosion.

Leah Walton escaped a nuclear bomb that flattened her hospital and vaporized her friends. Now she's racing to find her husband miles away. When her borrowed car ends up in a twisted, smoking heap, she wakes up injured and alone. She'll have to rely on the kindness of strangers to survive and hope none of them kill her in the process.

Could you drop everything to save yourself?

While Grant and Leah struggle to stay alive, the United States falls deeper into chaos. Bombs destroyed cities, but mankind will rip the country apart. Can Grant find his wife in a city of six million people? Can Leah survive until he does?

The attack is only the beginning.

Escape the Fall is book two in Nuclear Survival: Southern Grit, a post-apocalyptic thriller series, following ordinary people struggling to survive after a nuclear attack on the Unites States plunges the nation into chaos.

Great struggle for survival.

The back and forth between stories keeps you wondering what will happen next with the other character and keeps you invested. The scenes are played out almost exactly how I would imagine the world being in an event like this. My only gripe with the performance is the female narrators imitation of a male voice, great narrator overall but the male voices sound like a teenage boy teetering between puberty. That doesn’t whatsoever take away from the great story though.

Great story telling.

The writing is terrific. The story is both interesting and suspenseful. Will definitely listen to this one again.

Love and care for others in a time of crisis.

These two share their strength with others and find good people for their efforts. The true effects of the aftermath have just started, some are still in denial. This couple will survive!

The overwhelming Realistic possibility

Liked it all especially the addition of the dog.
The only complaint would be I think they should address getting sustenance more

Be prepared for panic

Like the focus on two peoples experiences during EMP nuclear attack. Will they find each other? Both are trying hard, but is that enough?

You will do anything for the one you love.

The dedication and drive to find each other. All the trials and barriers that got in their way.

Nice Change Of Pace

I find it refreshing that, unlike every other post-apocalyptic tale I've read or listened to, strangers have not completely devolved into murderers and thieves overnight. At least, not yet. While there are a few people with bad intentions starting to show up in the story there are still quite a few decent human beings that just want to do the right thing, several of which end up saving the lives of both Leah and Grant. Not only that but neither of them are injured to the point where it strains credulity that they survive, which is another refreshing difference between this series and most others I've read.

(I will note that, based on events in other countries after the collapse of their societies, we would most likely be facing lawlessness and violence almost from day one, especially in larger cities.)

While book 1 took a few chapters to hook me initially, once I got into this series I have been riveted ever since. I can't wait to find out what happens in book 3.

That said, I do have a beef with the narration. I rated it 5 stars because honestly it's quite good, but being a southern girl myself I'd expected at least a few southern accents given the setting and the fact that the series is called "Southern Grit". But, there ain't been nothin' like an accent, not even a "y'all".

Easy listen but dumb at times

So this book just like the previous one is an easy read. Unlike the first book this one is so dumb at times… It gave me a headache for making me roll my eyes so hard. I had to stop and write this review.
