Publisher's summary

As the newly appointed Lord Protector for Windfall and Mage Apprentice to the Wizard King of Great Vale, Alex Rogers had taken the role of a lifetime. Combined with his pending marriage to the half-nymph Lady Cassandra, he had more on his plate than he could ever hope to accomplish anytime soon.

However, a message intended for the dead Prince Renfeld, one exposing a dastardly plot, had been dropped in his hands. It was a plot involving the kidnapping of the sister of the King of Great Vale, and it leaves Alex no choice but to depart for foreign lands across the Western Sea. There, he must rescue someone who is not only the King's sister, but also the mother of his soon-to-be bride.

better sophomore attempt than the first book

This second in what appears to be an open-ended series of TRPG-inspired stories still smacks of rampant MC-favoritism, but it's at least not quite as disappointingly trite as the first.
Yet again, the narrator improved the experience, and continues to be the most enjoyable part.

Awesome 2nd book in the Alex Rogers Adventures!!

Completely enjoyed the new adventures Alex Rogers undertook! The addition of another lead character took me by surprise, however, her role added a whole new twist to the storyline.

Even better than Book 1

While I enjoyed book 1, I found this book a marked improvement. There was much more of a cohesive bonding between Alex and his 3 companions. This was particularly pleasing with Charles Lamb shedding Cassandra's previous cloying attachment to Alex and becoming more a a valued warrior companion.

While the confrontations included the intended usurper and hostage taker of Cassie's mom, along with encounters with Pirates and dwarves, as the title implies the major battle scenes involved battles with wyrms and dragons.

It was a fun listen and move the story along swimmingly, made all that much better with Travis Baldree's performance.

Good to listen to

I’m a big fan of the Alice series so this is a nice change of pace. Different genre but still entertaining. Its fantasy with some military stuff in there to keep my interest. Highly recommend this series.

Great continuing story line!!

I am loving this series! It continues to be fun in it's mixture of our current thinking meshed with that of an ancient royalty as in the Hobbit or similar stories. I like that I can follow the storyline even if I haven't been able to listen in a couple of days.
