Publisher's summary

Waking the Tiger offers a new and hopeful vision of trauma. It views the human animal as a unique being, endowed with an instinctual capacity. It asks and answers an intriguing question: Why are animals in the wild, though threatened routinely, rarely traumatized? By understanding the dynamics that make wild animals virtually immune to traumatic symptoms, the mystery of human trauma is revealed. Waking the Tiger normalizes the symptoms of trauma and the steps needed to heal them. People are often traumatized by seemingly ordinary experiences. The listener is taken on a guided tour of the subtle, yet powerful impulses that govern our responses to overwhelming life events. To do this, it employs a series of exercises that help us focus on bodily sensations. Through heightened awareness of these sensations trauma can be healed.

Great book, horrible narration

Incredible subject matter and quite possibly the poorest narration ever. The performance is slow and seemingly random syllables are drawn out and extended for no reason. I sped it up to 1.25x which made it at least a little listenable. I still wouldn't shy anyone away from this book, there are powerful illustrations of the author's points and the material is very alive... aside from having the human equivalent of bad 1990's AI reading it.

Life changing!

Should be required reading for all parents. It helped me identify 44 years of trauma and made me feel normal for the first time ever. Thank you!

Great Book, Awful Narration

Incredible, healing book. Unfortunately, it is also one of the worst readings of an audiobook I've ever tried to sit through. Speeding up the playback a bit helps, but some listeners may still find the narrator's voice and reading style grating to the point of distraction.

Really helpful. Terrible narrator.

There is a lot of helpful tools. But the narrator is so passionless and robotic it’s hard to listen to.

content is great...narration not so much

I really loved learning more about somatic experiencing and how it can help with trauma and chronic pain. I'm gonna get myself a somatic experiencing therapist now! I just wish the narration had been a little less affected. It helps to speed it up to 1.10 to lessen the overdrawn words.

LIFELONG TRAUMAS UNDERSTOOD

All things considered, I have had a productive life. But finally I understand how the childhood and military traumas have defined and shaped me. This book showed me truly what it means to reframe these tough areas. To be freed of what has haunted me for many years, seeing with new eyes.

Excellent information- 1 star for narration

I learned a lot, definable recommended, five stars. The the pace, and overall narration sounded so boring to me. The content was great the performance made it so difficult for me to finish this book.
