Waking the Tiger offers a new and hopeful vision of trauma. It views the human animal as a unique being, endowed with an instinctual capacity. It asks and answers an intriguing question: Why are animals in the wild, though threatened routinely, rarely traumatized? By understanding the dynamics that make wild animals virtually immune to traumatic symptoms, the mystery of human trauma is revealed. Waking the Tiger normalizes the symptoms of trauma and the steps needed to heal them. People are often traumatized by seemingly ordinary experiences. The listener is taken on a guided tour of the subtle, yet powerful impulses that govern our responses to overwhelming life events. To do this, it employs a series of exercises that help us focus on bodily sensations. Through heightened awareness of these sensations trauma can be healed.

The narrator for this book is REALLY annoying. It feels like he is totally disconnected from the text. He ends all of his sentences in one of three or four ways and every way sounds sarcastic. The book is a little dated but is otherwise ok. There are better books on trauma like van der Kolk.

Worst Narrator Ever!

This book is important and for that reason I am willing to ignore the quality of the narration and instead focus on the content. But the narrator’s style is horrendous. He is smarmy and cheesy. For the life of me I can’t imagine how anyone heard his voice and said “yep, he’s our guy for this very very important book”. It makes no sense.

Hugely important book. Worst narrator I’ve ever heard.

This is the first audiobook for me where the narration not helpful to comprehension or at least obtrusive. I've initially found the narration sing-songy and a consistent uplift at the end of every sentence distracting. I have gotten to chapter five and the content is keeping my interest, although the narration remains mildly annoying.

Content OK; hard to listen to performance

The narrator has a mechanical and emotionally detached enunciation, distracting you from such an important and educational content.

Narrator voice is distracting

This book was incredibly enlightening. It is a must read, in my opinion, especially for those who are affected by trauma and those who help people affected by traumas.

I can't recommend it enough. The structure of the book is great and it has a some verry good exercise. It explains so we'll how trauma effects the body and mind. I had tons of Aha! moments true this book.

Thank you Peter for this book. I’m a yoga teacher and this helped make sense of the release I have been seeing in clients from the connecting to their body and discharging. I wish every person especially parents would understand the stages of trauma you highlight so they can effectively move trauma to healings. The world is in need of this healing.

Eye opening - helped make sense of life

I would listen to this book multiple times if the narrator’s voice was different. I learned much from the book and will read it again, not listen to it.

Loved The Content Narration Is Horrible
