Publisher's summary

Gayle Windham, earl of Westhaven, is the first legitimate son and heir to the duke of Moreland. To escape his father's inexorable pressure to marry, he decides to spend the summer at his townhouse in London, where he finds himself intrigued by the secretive ways of his beautiful housekeeper.

Anna Seaton is a beautiful, talented, educated woman, which is why it is so puzzling to Gayle Windham that she works as his housekeeper. As the two draw closer and begin to lose their hearts to each other, Anna's secrets threaten to bring the earl's orderly life crashing down - and he doesn't know how he's going to protect her from the fallout.

Good story, annoying narrator

The narrator made the heroine, and many of the female characters, sound constantly whiney. The story was good, though somewhat predictable.

Recommend

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters felt more dimensional than in other similar stories.

I marked it down one star for the performance because the narrator tended to use whiny voice for our heroine.

Meh

Story has potential. But some of the lines are so ridiculous I actually laughed out loud. I know it's a cozy romance, that's why I chose it. This Duke is supposed to be honorable, but all he wants to do is diddle his maid. And I do like the voice of the narrator, but his female voice is not good. So Meh.

Great Listen

Although this was Grace Burrowes's debut novel, it was unavailable in audio until now. Narrated like the rest of Grace's titles, James Langton does a fantastic job narrating - all 3 of the Windham brothers are easy to tell apart and the female voices are very well done. Anna Seaton finds herself as housekeeper to Gayle, the Earl of Westhaven during a very hot summer. In hiding with her sister, Anna finds herself wanting to trust Westhaven with her secrets as they start to fall in love. I loved this book in print, and the audio is even better. The thing I love most about Grace Burrowes titles is that there is an emotional depth to her titles that aren't found in many stories these days. It's not just the grand gestures and dramatic moments that make up her romances, but the little things in everyday life that help show the depth of feeling that Anna and Westhaven develop towards each other. Westhaven's brothers are interesting characters in their own right who will see their stories released in audio over the next couple of months. I hope the Windham girls' stories will also be released in audio in the near future. I will be pre-ordering St. Just's story as soon as it is available.

A Very Pleasant Listen

I truly enjoyed listening to this book. I'd read it before, although it'd been long enough that I couldn't remember most of it. That was a bonus though because even though it was familiar it was almost like reading it for the first time. The narrator was great as well. His voice was very pleasant to listen to, and his ability to differentiate voices kept it easy to follow and know who the speak was and whether they were male or female. I'll be listening to the rest of the books of this series and probably looking for more books read by this narrator once I've finished. Highly Recommend.

6 hours too long

Gosh the story is great but it is too long . It was 12 hours and the first 4 chapters and the last 4 cover the entire story edit and rerelease.

Beautiful story.

I really enjoyed this story. It was written in the olden ways reminiscent of Jane Eyre. Some reviewers complained that it was too long, but I appreciate long reads, especially if I’m using a credit, I normally love male narrators in fact, I prefer them in a deep baritone this one was not my favorite, It seemed he tried too hard. If he had just relaxed and read the story in a normal voice. It would’ve been better.

I just had to leave a review letting those wondering this was a good listen. I would disregard the bad reviews. This is a very sweet story that kept me company over a long weekend.

ok story, bit simple

Good intro, interesting characters, but doesnt develop into much of a story. Needed more humor, events and maybe more historical detail for my interest.
