Those are the only choices left for Clay Hopewell. Infected with the ZERO virus, he has less than 24 hours before he bites the dust. With no cure available, there's only one option left: digitally reincarnate himself in the most advanced virtual reality game ever, the mysterious and newly released Arcane Kingdom Online.

But cheating death and gaining immortality isn't that easy. If Clay survives the risky cognitive upload process, he'll still have to contend with a fantasy world teetering on the brink of crisis. Worse, a quarter of the in-game population hates his starting race, he can't unlock the mage class he wants, and a malevolent glitch threatens to upend the very existence of his new reality.

If Clay doesn't learn the rules of his new surroundings quickly, his second chance at life will be a lot worse than his first.

Story was great but short

Enjoy the performance in the store overall if you’re going to buy this book just get the entire series in a pack instead of buying a piece by piece. It is too short!!

eh...

The beginning plot is something i have seen in atleast 4 other lit's so nothing new there.

I thought I would enjoy it anyways but the plot armor is way to strong in this one, the moment he is about to die his companion kills a mob the very last moment and he levels up to full hp this happened several times.

then he blushes like a 12 year old seing something naked for the first time when talks to friend despite his personality beign nothing close to it so it just dosnt make sense that he blushes while the bookworm dosnt..

It was good but too short!

yeah so this book was so good, easy to understand and nice flow to the story. However it was too short and made me wish it lasted more and more! It also wasn’t worth the credit good thing I got it in a deal so all good!

Not bad, but far from great...

I don’t write a lot of reviews, but by the end of the book I was sighing out loud every time the narrator said “H-U-D” instead of “hud”. The story wasn’t bad, but there are many other LitRPG stories that are better at drawing the reader into the plot. I also felt that the dungeon dive was way too short, couple rooms and done...might be why the book was a little short. On the positive side, I did like the character progression and magic system.

not great just mediocre

book was ok reminded me alot of the .hack anime which helped me get through it but was pretty obvious the narrator was not familiar with the source material every time he said h.u.d. I swear my eye would twitch from my blood pressure spiking

A new favorite LitRPG author and narrator!

I loved this book, and can't wait to read the next. His bio talks about a Final Fantasy influence, but I see that a bit, and so the question becomes, can he recreate what I loved about Final Fantasy. Jakob did, and here's how:
Little, and sometimes unique details about the gaming system that become a crucial part of how his character will survive. One example is you can't raise your hit points until you stop the bleeding. I may not have played all the FF's, but I don't remember that one-- and yet, it's perfect! Of course you shouldn't be able to add HP if you're bleeding out, ya dummy. Put pressure on the wound, then take your potion! He has challenged me as a LitRPG author, and rewarded me with fresh takes on the genre elements I already loved. Even the level ups where he'll gain only four magic points feels right back with FF VI and thinking, man I wanted more than that.
The narration by Ryan Burke is incredible. He has a unique gift of creating an experiential flow to his cadence. His battle scenes are tight and exciting, his character moments are witty, and his game notifications have this skater kid enthusiasm that makes me think, "Yeah man. Yeah."
On the front and tail end of book one we have succinct pictures of the world and the character that made me care, both for his survival and to fear that he won't. I won't spoil those, but only say, I didn't realize I needed that until I read it in his story. It makes you care going in, and on the way out, it makes you think, I want to keep going.

Interesting start.

Review for audiobook. Good story line especially during Covid times...anyways. Over all it has everything I enjoyed from these types of books.

The only Cons: The author failed to mention or explain the quest difficulty levels and item levels. For example: noob, rookie, novice, beginner, moderate, veteran, extreme, godlike, deathwish, etc...instead book uses a simplistic level difficulty system. Also, did not like how the audiobook literally read ATK every single time!! Just say attack....anyways, the ending was soooo gooood!! I am going to buy the rest of the series!!!!
