Publisher's summary

No looking back.

That's the motto of college senior Cameron Buckley, whether he's kicking his latest hookup out of bed or plotting out his future as a hit screenwriter. With only a few weeks until graduation, he's ready to put Browerton University in his rearview mirror and start the life he's been dreaming of ever since he was a kid. But a chance meeting with a sexy stranger in a bar throws a wrench into his Hollywood plans.

For Walker Reed, no looking back is hard to do when you work minutes away from your alma mater and share child custody with your college sweetheart. Almost 15 years after graduating from Browerton, he can't stop wondering how he got here. He has an ex who can't stand him, a five-year-old son he can't connect with, and a dead-end job he can't escape.

When Cameron and Walker first meet, they know the rules. They know their friendship has an expiration date, yet it begins changing them in ways they never expected. As graduation looms, they both know things can't go anywhere, but they can't keep denying the feelings pulling them closer, even as an offer from Hollywood threatens to tear them apart forever.

Contains mature themes.

ends with a smile

I enjoy A.J.Truman's stories. I like the college settings ,the student characters he creates, and the highs and lows of campus life remind me of how some things used to be.
Out On A Limb is my 3rd Truman story and surprisingly I've found them very satisfying.

Great mm contemporary story.

New to me author. This is a mm contemporary story set in the USA. Cam is just about to finish college and hit the real world with big plans in place. Walker finished college 10 years ago and now has an ex husband and a 6 yo boy. Cam and Walker get together as a fling but become more until Cam plans moves up in the timeline. Great story about plans, time, changes and choices. I listened to the audio book.

Walker and Cameron…

What I liked:
Story, narration, funny!

What I didn’t like:
Doug…lol! The huge age gap initially, but the relationship worked. And Doug ended up not being the absolute worst!

Good read for the moment

Alexander Cendese is awesome at doing character voices so I'm going out on a limb (yes, I went there) to say if I remember this title at all it's because of him. The love story took a back seat with me because I wasn't convinced that Walker and Cameron truly fell in love; it felt too forced. I found Walker's interactions with his boss, his married female colleague and his ex Doug more interesting than the romance between Walker and Cam. And don't forget little Javi...lol Walker's son was a delight.

4 stars- I won't listen again

Okay? Sure. Good? Almost.

A snarky moment: I genuinely don’t understand how an audiobook has a director and a producer and *still* somehow pronounced Hobie as “hobby” for 25% of the book.
Cendese is totally fine as a narrator, though his voices for other characters like women and children are kind of grating. My main issue is that he’s a FAST narrator. I’ve heard a few other books in which he’s been a narrator and he’s always fast. No pauses to let any tension or emotion or anything register.
The story is fine, too. I was happy the age gap didn’t come off as creepy as it has in other stories. Cameron and Walker were cute with each other and they were fleshed out well enough. Walker was perhaps a wee bit too interested in collegiate reminiscing but maybe that’s just a me issue. 😉
