About this listen

Her only hope for survival….

Handsome, wealthy, and respected, Sir Mark Turner is the most sought-after bachelor in all of London—and he's known far and wide for his irreproachable character. But behind his virtuous reputation lies a passionate nature he keeps carefully in check… until he meets the beautiful Jessica Farleigh, the woman he’s waited for all his life.

But Jessica is a courtesan, not the genteel lady Sir Mark believes. Desperate to be free of a life she despises, she seizes her chance when Mark's enemies make her an offer she can’t refuse: seduce Mark and tarnish his good name, and a princely sum will be hers. Yet as she comes to know the man she’s sworn to destroy, Jessica will be forced to choose between the future she needs… and the love she knows is impossible.

A nice love story about how love redeems you, changes you and ultimately conquers any obstacle. It slowly develops a relationship out of friendship and the sexual tension was Amazing! For being a courtesan story it was quite vanilla! I enjoyed the story a lot specially the conclusion.

Narration: I feel that the only problem in this story was the narrator. Polly Lee sounded too old, on the verge of crying several times and her male characters sounded badly. I will avoid books narrated by her in the future.

Ah the power of love...

This was my first Courtney Milan novel, and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I like historical romances, but I just didn't know what to expect from this author. Like all genres, there's a mixture of offerings out there. And all are not to my liking. But this story was believable, romantic without scenes that make me roll my eyes while I think "As if," and sexual, though not erotic--meaning the, maybe, 2.5 or 3 complete sex scenes were very tamed. Though, I should add, I have no problem with samplings from the erotic genre as well. I don't want to leave the wrong impression. Continuing, some of the sex scenes were alluded to without giving the full picture, but it didn't detract from the story at all, but added to it appropriately. I absolutely loved the heroes full support of the heroine and how she came into her own. I loved the view of women in relation to men's sexuality and women not being too blame. As a result of this book, I'm going to read Ash's story. And I look forward to the other brother's story too. I actually wanted that one first, but it's not available. So I wait with baited breath! This book is well worth the expense IMO.

Quite Enjoyable!

What made the experience of listening to Unclaimed the most enjoyable?

when a book makes me cry, I know it was a GREAT story, I cried and it felt wonderful and it's a great romance story. good job

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jessica- I can relate to her to some point. To fight and make it- and at the end to find love and someone to love you JUST THE WAY we are.

Have you listened to any of Polly Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think it's the narrator she did a great job. very emotional and could tell the differance in all the characters

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, even took it to bed, and then in the morning went back and relistened to it again.

Any additional comments?

WONDERFUL preformance

A tender story of love and friendship

Would you consider the audio edition of Unclaimed to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version.

What other book might you compare Unclaimed to and why?

Regency romance junkies give Courtney Milan high marks; for good reason! As with Unveiled, multi-layered story, fresh storytelling, nothing predictable. Nice balance of light humor and seductive moments.

What does Polly Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The fact that it is Rebecca De Leeuw narrating and NOT Polly Lee is likely why this was an enjoyable listen. De Leeuw knows how to read a historical romance with the right timing and intonation.

Narration so wrong it's right

Courtney Milan's books are always richly detailed, thoroughly thought out, and full of the visual and auditory texture that brings the story off the printed page. This book is no exception. The narration is good, too; Rebecca de Leeuw sounds remarkably like Joanna Lumley at times, and her plummy tones shift to West Country, from female to male, and from one class to another, distinctly and easily. I would definitely listen to more by this narrator. I'd love it if she could do the recording for the third book in the series, because the narrator on that one is terrible.

Rich, meaty story, narrated by Rebecca de Leeuw

If you could sum up Unclaimed in three words, what would they be?

Pride, Honesty and Love

What other book might you compare Unclaimed to and why?

He that is free of sin... throw the first stone...

What about Polly Lee???s performance did you like?

Yes, very much, rhythm, sound, clarity and emphasis.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Others opinion and interior freedom.

This second novel of the series did not meet up to my expectation. I couldn't connect with the characters. Mainly the heroine ! She was unlikable ! The hero as well was not that exciting ! I didn't enjoy this novel as I did the first one in the series. Yet Courtney's style in writing is elegant and artistic. But the dialoge was not as good as her previous work.
But I am looking forward for the third brother's book. He was introduced in the first two books and he sounds really exciting . Can't wait :)

OK but not up to her previous work

Woman’s issues galore and the dearest man. Oh just wish that we all learn something from this tale. Change a few details and it becomes not a historical story but a modern story of understanding with compassion. We are all wounded humans but we still need too be kind to each other.

Very moving story....

I like this series. It takes a bit long. She throws obstacles up even once we want them to be over FINALLY. But I listen and enjoy and recommend. I loved Ash and Margaret and Marc so it was fun to find out about his book and see him get his wife. I would have liked a bit more about Ash an Margaret. Will read the next one

Enjoyable
