Publisher's summary

First rule of espionage: Don't ever fall in love with your target.

Five years ago, Gemma Townsend learned the hard way what happens when you break this rule. She lost everything. Her mentor's trust. The man she loved. And almost her life. Love is a weakness she can never afford again.

When offered a chance at redemption, the seductive spy is determined to complete her assigned task: to track down a dangerous assassin known as the Chameleon, a mysterious killer sent after the queen, whose identity seems to constantly change.

But as her investigation leads Gemma into a trap, she's rescued by a shadowy figure she thought was dead - the double agent who once stole her heart.

A man with few memories, all Obsidian knows is Gemma betrayed him, and he wants revenge. But one kiss ignites the unextinguished passion between them, and he can't bring himself to kill her.

Can Obsidian ever trust her again? Or is history doomed to repeat itself? Because it soon becomes clear the Chameleon might be closer than either of them realized...and this time Gemma is in the line of fire.

Contains mature themes.

Channeling Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow

“Malloryn would wouldn’t hesitate.”
Sweet steampunk, that was spectacular! Fangs, intrigue, nefarious tech, corsets and assassins, oh my!
I loved the whole ‘who’s the better killer’ rivalry within the Company of Rogues almost as much as the lethal romance between Gemma and Obsidian.

I like my ladies fierce and Gemma is Queen of the Assassin’s Hill.
Good thing Obsidian is equally dangerous. The danger flirting and get-togethers are scorching.
This author puts her couples through the wringer and I was there for it.

“Charlie’s a sugar plum.”
Although this is set in regency London, this had the pulpy vibe of Bond movies. There’s a great villain in Ghost and a larger Specter-like conspiracy afoot. If you’ve made it this far in the series, you might want to wait until you have the next two books before you press play because the series arc picks up steam here and leaves you with a cliffhanger that will have you immediately moving on.

I love this series

London steampunk ran into Blue Blood Conspiracy...wonderful! Can not wait until the remaining 3 books are on Audible. Until then I will have to continue with the next book on my Kindle.
