Publisher's summary

Jodi Burkitt is alone again. Her ex took everything with her—the friends, the fun, and the daughter that Jodi had loved like her own. She's got plenty to distract her from the empty days and nights, especially her latest home renovation project.

When Jodi discovers a hidden jewelry box in the walls of the home she's renovating, she turns to her ex's friend, librarian Michele Galveston, to help piece together the mystery inside the box.

Michele Galveston is anything but a quiet librarian—she sings in a local band and has a talent for never following anyone's rules but her own. Michele has a reputation for rarely staying with a woman for more than a few months and Jodi knows she should steer clear. But the closer they get to solving the mystery in the jewelry box, the closer Jodi and Michele get to each other.

Will Jodi risk her heart again—especially for someone as emotionally unavailable as Michele? And will Michele finally find a way to trust someone enough to share the secret she's kept hidden for so many years? With Jodi's wounded heart and Michele's love 'em and leave 'em history, it's likely that love songs and life might be two very different things.

Contains mature themes.

Awesome

The story keeps your interest the entire time, Abby Craden did a great job narrating, as usual!

Frustrating But Wonderful

I loved the variety and complexity of the characters. The mystery was so captivating and emotional. A sad but very real tribute to the historical realities of women who loved women. To others, hang in to the end-feel all the emotions- it so worth it.

Missed Jaime’s steam

Jaime writes some of the hottest sex scenes ever, but it was missing from this book. There’s was sex, but it seemed flat, & unexciting.
That being said, it was a sweet story, it just was missing that extra bump.

lost love

Lots of things going on with this story. There is an ill-fated love from 60 years ago, a slow burn that weaves in and out the entire story and many other challenging issues. Very enjoyable. Narrated by the great Abby Craden.

love the author and narrator

this audiobook had me interested from the start. I enjoyed the storyline and the semi slow burn of the main characters. Abby Craden is always the best (how does she make everyone sound so desirable?) ok so I loved the book, BUT I didn't like the abrupt ending and there was also an abrupt weird surprise to the story about 80% of the way through the book... book would have been better if Michelle's surprise never happened? :) still, great listen by 2 talented women!

Truly fascinating love story. Loved that included a working class dyke.

I loved all the main characters developed and loved it nothing I didn't like. I would have liked more int err action between Alice and W. More about Ws younger life as A communist. Really the history in this was awesome

Frustrating

I usually love books by this author. I buy them based in her being the author. This one was so different and soooo frustrating to me. I didn’t like either of the MCs in the way that they handled themselves. So much up and down. I could have used about half the amount. One was so pushy (how many times can someone so no!) and the others so flaky. It didn’t feel real for me. Just as it was starting to maybe get interesting, it ended! Very abruptly.
The writing was good as usual. And Abby Craden narrates, so there’s that. I’m really not sure if I’d recommend this one. I’m 100% on the fence.

meh

This is the first book I haven't finished by this author. Abby Craden was excellent as usual. The endless angst was, well endless. Hopefully the next book will be less angsty.
