Publisher's summary

Scholar and award-winning author Faith Fitzgerald has every reason to be happy: a wealthy, charming man who adores her and a family cheering her marriage prospects. But from the moment she meets Eric's sister, Sydney Van Allen, she knows her safe, predictable feelings for him are a shadow of what could be.

Openly lesbian and running for senator, Sydney can only succeed if she can live down her wild past. That means no liaisons, especially with the achingly alluring woman on her brother's arm who looks at her with confusion - and desire.

Still one of my favorite stories by KK

I love the story of Sydney and Faith. I think anyone can relate to their story in one way or another. And getting to the scene that the updated cover is based on was such a delight for me! It's perfect. I wish their story was longer.

Good read & topic

Half the story is a history lesson & other half is about identity-struggles in love relationships. True depiction of conflicts between religious upbringing, forced beliefs, internalized turmoils, suppressed identity, and family pressures. The Catholic faith aspect was dead on. First book I’ve read that covers this topic. Very relatable and well done! Abby Craden was fantastic, as always.

Good and timely story

Interesting characters, and timely story set in a backdrop of modern LBGTQ struggle around being “fit for political office”.

Intertwines religious based self hatred and a women coming out later than many do.

Great narration of a very good story.

Great read.

Loved the history lesson and generally I am no lover of history. Loved the religious aspect; I am not Catholic but the Pentecostals are similar in many ways.

Can a combination of writer and narrator make a book?

I don’t know the answer to this one. Because everyone I listen to a Karin Kallmaker book narrated by Abby Craden I love the book. And this book is no different excellent book and great narration and this time if you are in isolation get it for a pleasure and escape

surprisingly good

This book is a bit long in the history parts, but nevertheless it is a very good story with emotional ups and downs. The narrator of course is wonderful not unexpected since it's Abby reading it.

Wonderful book that covers a subject that I'm more familiar with than I'd like to be. Very well written and... Abby Craden!
