Publisher's summary

Get it on…again! The Strange Company is back and on the defensive.

A massive invasion of a major Monarch world gets underway and the weird warrant officers of Voodoo Platoon move into their roles as combat multipliers at the front lines of an incredible no-holds-barred brawl for battlefield domination. Facing legions of Ultramarines, a weaponized population, and re-engineered combat veterans augmented by cybernetics, the stone-cold killers and ready-to-rumble rogues of Strange, fighting alongside a newly christened mech combat team, must hold a gateway landing zone against overwhelming odds.

But the Ultras aren’t the premier elite fighting unit of the crumbling Monarch Empire for nothing. Defeat isn't even on the table for this military death cult of galactic warriors the Strange faces across a charred and dangerous battlefield.

To the legendary Ultramarines, this is the last battle; the final conflict, and nothing less than their honor and a place in history are at stake. To survive, Reaper, Dog, and Voodoo Platoons will have to play every dirty trick in the book of war in a desperate, high-cycle, ride-the-lightning defense of a bad LZ where both sides know what they do here will echo into eternity.

The tragedy of the Strange Company continues on LZ Heartbreak. Just because it’s a bad idea, doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.

Not what I was expecting

But I loved it anyway. Strange Company has a very "Nick Cole" feel to it. The book can wander and in some places drag, but that wandering can also bring you to some amazing moment that make listening closely absolutely worth it.

And for the record, a Kill Team from Galaxy's Edge would wipe the floor with Strange Company. Not even close! :D

A rare book

I definitely enjoy this series. However, this book hit me as particularly meaningful. I can’t think of another book that hit home like this when it comes to extolling the value and virtues of Hot Soup. Hot Soup!! Come and Get Some!!!

Stories in Stories

Great finish to a 2 book series. Loved the way back stories were woven into the main story. As always- great details and somehow believable storylines. Wish there were more! Mr. Cole is a genius and Mr. Grant was the perfect narrator.

He was the best of us

The war against the monarchs comes to a brutal conclusion in this second entry in the Tragedy of the Strange Company. In this book we get a massive info dump on some of our favorite Vodoo operators along with a long protracted battle on a bad LZ. It sets up the final book Hearts of Darkness very well and leaves us with the Simia and remaining humans at a tense stalemate as they ponder what’s to come with the final remnants of the Monarchs.

Superlative

The military space opera version of the Canterbury Tales with great action between the vignettes. My favorite character was Nether - what a back story! Way to go Sgt Cole.

NCO IN THE SH*T

The deep psychological aspects of NCO command in terrible situations sounded authentic to this SciFi fanboy. Small unit war fighting tactics against bigger forces seemed a stretch at times, but an exciting read nonetheless.

Fantastic Mil Sci-if

Great depth of thought, near flow of consciousness exploration of a human “ruck hobo” soul as it battles enemies without, within and from the ‘other’ side. Even better than the first one.

Incredible

Great story. Author tends to repeat himself but still very entertaining and the performer is excellent with good accents

Even better than the first one.

Gotta be honest about these things ... I cried like a baby at the end. I can't wait for more Strange.
