Publisher's summary

The perfect family. The perfect house. The perfect life. All gone now.

What could cause a man, when all the stars of fortune are shining upon him, to suddenly snap and destroy everything he has built? This is the question that haunts Sergeant Ryan DeMarco after the wife and children of beloved college professor and best-selling author Thomas Huston are found slaughtered in their home. Huston himself has disappeared and so is immediately cast as the prime suspect.

DeMarco knows - or thinks he knows - that Huston couldn't have been capable of murdering his family. But if Huston is innocent, why is he on the run? And does the half-finished manuscript he left behind contain clues to the mystery of his family's killer?

A masterful new novel by acclaimed author Randall Silvis, Two Days Gone is a taut, suspenseful story that will break your heart as much as it will haunt your dreams.

Captivating

It had a lot of twists and turns. Just when I had it figured out I was thrown a curve ball. Very good book.

SUPERB

I loved how this story was told about these two flawed but wonderful men. The narrator was the best. Only problem is there is not a sequel to continue the story of Detective Demarco and I do want more. A wonderful, difficult story to tell.

MORE PLEASE

Stuck with It In Spite of Narrator Problems

Would you listen to Two Days Gone again? Why?

No.. This was a good police detective story, but hey, too many books and too many authors. I might try a different Ryan De Marco mystery again, hopefully with a a different narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Two Days Gone?

There were several interesting points to me about the plot. That the suspected murderer of his family was a college professor of writing, a man who was a well-known established author was interesting, especially since the book that he was involved in writing was to be related to Lolita by Nabovkov and to Poe through Annabelle Lee made it literary in nature. I have read Lolita, of course, and several of Poe's novels and his poems are familiar as well. Psychological elements of why a character may do something dreadful like the murders in this case appeal to me.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

He needed to slow his speed down by about 15% especiaily at the beginning as I the listener is trying to get a grip on characters and direction of plot. I had to slow the speed down to 75% for about four chapters, before I could listen to the real recorded speed. Again at the end pacing it a bit slower as we got to the nitty-gritty of action and winding up the threads of the plot would have helped. But, it could be I never have liked people that talk too fast.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Who needs guns to kill when sharp kitchen blades are so handy?

Any additional comments?

I have suggested this to friends who like mystery/detective novels by Michael
Connelly.

Captivating all the way through

I listened to the whole thing in about 4 days. Full of twists and turns and narrated by two deeply flawed but relatable characters, Two Days Gone Is everything I want in a suspense/crime novel. It reminded me a bit of Gone Girl. I recommend it.

This book is AMAZING!

I listen to a lot of books and this one is a gem. Detective story with a professor/novelist as a character brings forth a great story as well as a depth of knowledge of the writing process that I deeply appreciate. All the people in Two Days Gone are real, expertly fleshed out and believable characters. No cliches! Thank you Randall Silvis, I will read anything you write. And please hurry up, I can't wait! :)

Not really that good

Any additional comments?

This book got a lot of good reviews but it really wasn't that good. I wanted to like it, even listened most of the way through but it just wasn't that interesting. It drug on, not a lot happened, and the story line which should have been good, was mediocre at best.
