Publisher's summary

True Mate is the first book in the Prosper Woods Chronicles, but don't miss True Knight, the incredible prequel to the series!

When I moved to Prosper Woods, California, a couple of weeks ago, I’d had big plans for a quiet life. Let’s just say, things haven’t exactly turned out the way I expected they would. For one thing, as new sheriff, I hadn’t planned on investigating a murder the day after my arrival. For another thing, no one told me supernatural creatures existed. I didn’t believe it at first, but when Vincent Lasco suddenly smiled at me with a mouth full of fangs, things got interesting.

Quiet small-town life indeed!

The moment I decided to take Sheriff Romeo Harmon home for a roll in the sheets, I knew hiding my true nature was a huge mistake. Then again, things never turn out the way I expect. The simple life of anonymity I’d hoped to have in Prosper Woods has blown up in my face in the most poetic and spectacular way. Not only that, the guy isn’t even aware that he has secrets of his own. How a guy could have lived all his life not knowing what he was, seems nearly impossible but in his case, I know it’s true.

Supernaturals are everywhere!

The town of Prosper Woods has a couple of new residents who at first glance, seem very unsuited for small town life. Before long though, I realized they were right for the town...probably the only right thing about this weird place. Surprisingly, they fit right in.

Things are about to get interesting!

Even better than the Prequel

I loved this one. The stories in Prosper Woods are moving forward - so much going on. Romeo his learning more about his powers and shifters. Vincent has a new mystery of his own to solve. Stuff with Floyd gets settled, but you can tell new things to solve are coming. I'm heading right into the next book.

Patricia Logan cant write these books fast enough!

Patricia Logan sure knows how to get a reader thoroughly hooked! With an absolutely brilliant start to the Prosper Woods Chronicles in the form of 'True Knight', the writer keeps us wanting more with 'True Mate'--the official first book of the series. Brilliantly narrated by John Solo, I was delighted to revisit this incredible world where shifters of every kind exist. There are new characters on the scene and new revelations from old friends. We have the absolute joy of seeing Sheriff Romeo Harmon grow into his powers as he is advised by his vampire lover Vincent Lasco. It's delightful to see their relationship grow and their love blossom. The sheriff's shocking realization of the supernatural beings that call Prosper Woods home is second only to his mortification that everyone knows 1) what kind of being he is and 2) that he is intimately involved with the male vampire Vincent Lasco! I find it HILARIOUS!!! But Romeo and Vincent have more to worry about and manage than small-town gossip. The local wolf pack's leader is dangerous as all hell and a group of very old vampires has decided to visit Vincent at Prosper Woods to claim something they shouldn't have! Ms. Logan is an especially clever writer in keeping her readers engaged without boredom, too much drama, or an over-emphasis on sexual intimacy. This story, like so much of her other work, is well balanced for the sub-genre. In this particular work, there is an amazing blend of scenes: we get an exciting thrill, then a warmly tender moment, then an incredible reveal, etc. She's also good at ensuring a resolution to a sub-plot or two after scaring us silly with the introduction of another mind-blowing sub-plot. It's all so good, it positively wicked! Darn her! 😁 I can't wait for the next book of this terrific series!

A vampire, a unicorn, a witch, and a couple of werewolves walk into a bar

While True Knight is listed merely as a prequel and not part of the linked series, I think reading/listening to it is necessary to understand the characters, relationships, and events leading up to this book. Prosper Woods is a fascinating place, filled with so many different characters. The mysteries, both small and large, as well as the confrontations with Floyd and the other vampires fuel this story. I would have liked a bit more romance, but Romeo and Vincent still manage to have some tender moments plus hot scenes to cover part of that. While one plot thread is wrapped up, several more are left open, presumably for later installments of what is proving to be a true serial and not a series of standalones. John Solo does a fantastic job narrating this book to the point where the listening to the audiobook is more fulfilling than reading it.

entertaining, engaging and really good storytelling

I read the prequel, True Knight, and knew I had to read this one. It didn’t disappoint. Romeo and Vincent are the main characters and their developing relationship is sweet. But the whole cast of characters are engaging and funny and some are downright bad. This series is entertaining and I can’t wait for the next one. It’s just really good storytelling. And, of course, John Solo’s narration was perfect.

Excitingly awesome

Though I didn’t listen to the prequel before delving into the story, it was relatively easy to interweave the missing piece. Let’s just say, I loved learning of Romeo and Vincent and the cast of characters in this series…I’m so looking forward to the next segment of the story…loved this!!!

Such a plethora of interesting characters!

Love, friendship and danger abound in the towns of Prosper Wood and Fredrick. What strikes me about this series is how many characters are presented without leaving the reader confused, and how well Patricia Logan makes use of them to give us that feeling of small town life with a paranormal twist. The relationship between Sheriff Rome and Vincent the vampire is perhaps a little too sweet sometimes, but that is my only complaint. I love Sid the witch and his useless brother, I have high hopes for Sam and Gregg, and I really hope they find Blue in the next book.
