Four thousand years have passed since Covenant first freed the Land from the devastating grip of Lord Foul and his minions. The monstrous force of Evil has regained its power, once again warping the very fabric and balance of the Land. Armed with his stunning white gold, wild magic, Covenant must battle not only terrifying external forces but his own capacity for despair and devastation. His quest to save the Land from ultimate ruin is as exciting and heroic as ever.

one of my favorites

linguistically rugged, beautifully sardonic, emotionally precipitous... well done.
The Wounded Land dismantles the religious and psychological apparatus of society, making place for childlike wonder.
Did not want to wake up.

So much pain covers this book, life screams on every page. So much Ill so much uncertainty so much doubt so much my head wanted to burst. But had to keep moving had to endure to the end. Now I must continue on.

A powerful book for those who can bear the weight.

I love this book with all my pained heart. Don't enter into this trilogy without expecting to be changed. Also, your vocabulary will be tested: we are the Bloodguard.

Tremendous follow-up

Years after having first read this great book, I’m brought back to the Land, it’s stories and people - and what a wonderful return! So much passion and depth here. As much as I enjoyed the first trilogy, the second weaves an even more enticing tapestry, leaving me in tears along the way. Kudos to Scott Brick’s narration, which elevates the material to new levels. Highly recommended!

Mr. Dale makes this an enjoyable listen. I have read The series several times and have enjoyed it every time.

Epic series, great narration - a revisited classic

I've read this series several times over the years, starting when I was a teen, and it's a series that I've always loved. Like so many other books I've read over the years, the audio book format gives it a different twist and makes it possible to enjoy while doing other tasks or while driving. I've always felt the story itself was a bit derivative of, or at least inspired by the Lord of the Rings books. And the author seems to like to use big words when a more common word would be a better fit, and repeats some of his favorites often, which is one thing that's always peeved me about reading Stephen R. Donaldson. But I'll leave it to others to review the story itself. The narration is quite good, with Scott Brick offering a range of different inflections for different situations and characters. I'm deducting one star for some weird pronunciations that I feel were not accurate for some character names and common words, but I'm nit picking. Scott Brick does a great job with his dramatic reading of this material.

Marvelous

First read this as a teenager. Listening now on the far side of life only confirms it’s still the best story I’ve ever read.

Best of Donaldson

the best of Donaldson. I read the print version in the 1980s. I waited a long time to find it on audible. the story just gets better with time.

A great start to the Second Chronicles

Anyone who has gotten this far can’t stop now. The only quibble is that this volume had some ups and downs in the first half when it came to the recording quality. It’s the only one in the first six that had this issue and Brick got it sorted out and the last half and the two subsequent volumes were up to his normal standards of excellence.
