Publisher's summary

Poor, unfortunate spinster....

Prudence Westfall, spinster, has unexpectedly had the greatest misfortune of all: she has inherited a fortune, and is now an heiress. But as a spinster, and a stammering shy one, nothing could be worse than having a bevy of suitors pay her attention. Opportunity strikes at a house party when the most unlikely person offers the perfect solution.

Camden Vale is no gentleman, and he’s not prone to saving anyone, but something about Prue changes all that. When his offer to befriend her extends beyond the house party, and his feelings extend beyond expectation, no one is more surprised than he. Except for the other spinsters, who have much to say on the subject.

Amazing Story!

Rebecca Connolly did it again! Such a fantastic story I can listen to repeatedly. Watching the development of Prue and Camden’s relationship was as purely and beautifully satisfying as watching a rose bloom. I do wish there was a more satisfying moment where the courage to stand up to the wicked was witnessed but it was great to see how the characters did each grow stronger in significant ways.

Real life drama

Finally a regency romance that is authentic to life. Rebecca Connolly is refreshing in her ability to write stories that do not depend on dramatic abductions and other such plot elements to generate excitement. For me the greatest enjoyment comes through being party to a well developed relationship rising from interpersonal conversations and interactions. Rebecca does this beautifully with the tension arising from believable and common foibles or human failures and weaknesses that are part of common life to this day…. Thus these stories could have happened! I can enjoy them and I don’t have to deal with the suspense of a contrived danger. Though having said that her London League series is one of my favorites of any author, with only the last book needing an adjustment to one character to be perfect. I hope to see all these books available on audible. It is greatly disappointing that they are not. Even if a different reader has to finish the series I would rather that than have them not available. Thank you Rebecca for the work you put in to craft these wonderful characters and stories.

Haven’t finished yet but delighted by this book!

That’s right, not even 1/2 way through and had to rate because I was just jumping with glee and something that just happened, and I’m sure there is more to come at the way things are being set up!!😆
While I couldn’t be more annoyed at Prudences family especially her cousin, this book is so fun! So far!!

Excellent

I loved this story immensely. My new favorite line comes from this book. I do so hope the other books in the series come out in audio soon.

Extremely Tedious Storyline

The narration was very good, but the writing reminded me of my college days when you were required to write a paper of a certain length and when you didn't have enough meaningful content, you filled in with a lot of fluff! The ONLY reason I was determined to finish it was in the hopes of the heroine finally getting the courage to give a verbal lashing to her incredibly cruel mother and cousin! But nothing like that ever happened. Not only that, but her mother was rewarded with a nice dowager house and the cousin retired to the country. Extremely unsatisfying! What a waste of my time!

About 10 chapter too long!

Would have been a great story but ruined by dragging out pain and misery. Lost focus and filled pages.

Don’t waste a credit

There are so many things wrong with this book, I don’t even have the motivation to write it.

Do not read this book if you do not like doormat heroines and mustache twirling villains. Some of the dialogue was reminiscent to the locker room talk of a pack of mean high school girls, not the witty dialogue you come expect from a regency novel. Don’t waste a credit, there are hundreds of better books in this genre that are actually free.
Narrator was ok, she spoke clearly and didn’t annoy me like many English narrators with their breathy whispers.
