Publisher's summary

""Kiss me. Just this once ... please, Walker."

Those whispered words were my undoing....

As the most hated player in baseball, I had two options: either clean up my image, or pack my bags. Being traded wasn't an option which only meant one thing, I had to become compliant.

That's how I found myself sharing a small bistro table with Kate Chapman, the Chicago Bobbies newest PR Manager. Devastatingly beautiful, vastly intelligent, and incredibly cunning, she knows exactly how to handle my grumpy demeanor.

It was supposed to be simple. Book some PR events, show up, smile for the camera, and be done. But one massive mistake on my end sends me into the trenches with Kate, forcing me to open up to her.

Innocent glances turn into cordial encounters.

Secret touches turn into tempting invitations.

And dangerous nights alone turn into consuming desperation.

I’ve never wanted a woman as much as I want her. And I know she wants me, but there’s a no fraternizing with the players rule. Neither of us can afford to lose our jobs, but we also can't seem to keep our hands off each other, either.

The perfect catch

The story was great…especially all the great foreplay sex scenes. Narration was awesome as they pulled me right into their web of tangled ties.

I still feel this one in my heart! What a beautiful story!

Wow, the pull of this one. This took the forbidden, we can’t be together, push and pull to the next level. There was so much steam before anything real happened. The pull Kate and Walker had for each other was palpable. The want. Phew. It wasn’t written as lust, it was true deep feelings. It was so easy to see the connection between these two. It felt so real. As much as they wanted to be together, I am glad they both stuck to their commitments and to their own goals. They knew it was important to be happy for themselves as well as in a partnership. I loved the maturity of Walker and Kate in this sense. It’s more real life.

This whole story was done in a beautful, heartbreaking fashion. I loved the way they found their way to each other initially and late in the story. Walker and Kate’s love story was really a great one. I loved this one so much.

Not specific to this book, but to her entire Brentwood/Towel Birgade. I have really enjoyed these stories and my time in this world. The characters being part of multiple stories was such a great way to further get to know them, and to stay connected after you already knew and loved them. I am so happy I read these books.

I love Jason Clarke’s narration. I love him the most when he is the surly, crabby, standoffish, jerk of a guy. He does that so well, and then contrast to his kind and passionate voice is just perfection. This is the first book I ever noticed his breath, and it added so much to Walker’s character. I loved that extra layer to his narration. Vanessa Edwin has such a beautiful feminine voice. It’s crisp and smooth. She also has so much depth and feeling. They balanced each other so well in this story. Meghan’s books are always so great in audio!

Another great baseball romance with depth

Meghan Quinn has done it again. I absolutely loved her latest baseball romance - The Perfect Catch. She made me fall in love with 'the most hated man in baseball' right along with our female lead.

Walker, our male lead, has a huge chip on his shoulder and a giant PR problem. In comes Kate to help save the day. But as she tries to make the man just a little bit more likeable, what she finds is that he is a man that is quiet, reserved, and grossly misunderstood. But relationships between the team staff and the players is decidedly off-limits.

What did I love about this book so much? Kate and Walker are such well-written, well-developed characters. They're flawed, their not perfect, but they are perfect for each other. They fight so hard to play by the rules, but at the end of the day, their connection is what they both need to feel like they have a complete life. The complexities of their working relationship, of Walker's relationship with his teammates, of the years of hurt and reserve that Walker needs to work past - they all add so much to the story.

The audio narration by Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin is fantastic. They both bring so much emotion to their portrayals, and Jason has a perfect level of growl to really bring out the surliness, the reserve, the broken pieces of Walker.

A delicious slow burn sports rom-com

I loved Kate and Walker! They are most definetly the perfect match for each other and are my favourite couple from Meghan Quinn’s Brentwood Baseball Series. There is so much depth to these characters. They are both so passionate about their careers. Walker comes across as grumpy and rough around the edges at first but when he opens up his heart and Kate slowly breaks down the walls he has built up I fell hard and fast for him. He has a huge heart and deserved to find what he did with Kate. Kate is the PR Manager for the Chicago Bobbies and Walker plays for the team, as their Catcher. Due to a no fraternization policy a relationship between the two is completely off limits but the more and more time they spend time together professionally it gets harder and harder for them to ignore the attraction and deep connection they share. This was such a delicious slow burn. The push and pull was torturous at times but SO worth it in the end. Meghan Quinn is a master of writing funny, sweet and steamy romance and I devoured every word! Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin were fabulous telling this story together! Jason Clarke plays Walker perfectly with his sexy, growly voice, and Vanessa Edwin did an amazing job as well. The passion and emotion in her performance was incredible.

Walker is gruffy perfection!!

Hello, book hangover. It’s been a minute since we’ve been together in the same room. I was given a fair warning by the Queen herself, but here I am. Sitting and thinking about Walker and Kate’s story.

The angst. The deliciously slow burn filled with so much tension. The teasing. I don’t have enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe all the feelings I had while reading this book.

We met Walker in Jason’s story and I was hooked on him from the moment he graced the pages.

It took several books for us to get to Walker’s story and he was worth the wait. The chemistry and perfection of Walker and Kate makes them one of my favorite book couples. Seriously, I don’t think I’ll ever get over these two. And chapter 36? I don’t blush easily but this chapter had me fanning myself. The spice, the naughtiness, the forbiddenness of it? Kindle and earbud melting.

Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin were phenomenal! They brought Meghan’s words even more to life. The perfect choices.

OMG so good!

This book was amazing from beginning to end. If you’ve read the other Brentwood Boys books, this ties in other characters and had my jaw dropping making the connections.

Good, but not one of my Megan Quinn favorites - no spoilers

Trope: grumpy/ sunshine
Narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Jason Clarke is one of my FAVORITE narrators and always does such a good job. Vanessa Edwin did amazing as well! I wish this book (and all of Quinn’s books) were duet narration, but dual narration is better than nothing :)

Walker is not my favorite in terms of the men Megan usually writes. He’s not as soft hearted underneath (imo compared to the other men). It’s fun that she combines her books with previous characters! So I loved that aspect ☺️

Overall, I don’t regret spending a credit on this one, but it’s probably not one I would listen to again.

Didn't want it to end!

This was my first time reading one of Meghan Quinn's books, and if the rest of her repertoire is similar to this book, I'll read all of them! The author is consistent with many stories with the theme of forbidden love, with tormented characters attracted to each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the chaste make out scene, even considering how to accomplish it with my own partner because it was highly erotic! The story contained several twists, one of which I didn't expect, which kept me hungry for each subsequent chapter.
I have listened to several books narrated by Jason Clarke, and I think this is one of his best performances. His tone and inflection breathed a soul into the male protagonist's character. He also created an excellent voice for the female role, which confirmed that I would appreciate a book that Jason reads as a solo narrator. I have not heard as many books with Vanessa Edwin, but she did a fantastic job with this role and I will look for her name on future purchases.
Excellent job to all involved!

Soak it in!!!!

Meghan Quinn will never fail you on this series! You will experience a small bumpy ride but will kick into gear towards the end. By audiobook, Jason does a great job as Walker with his swooning, alpha, and don’t forget his snarky little cuteness yet putty mouth galore! Soak it in, baby! Just soak it in! As Vanessa Edwin’s performance is spot on as being Kate! She was confident, lovely, and definitely felt how Walker got under her skin! Yup, likable characters, great flow, plenty of adorable banters/sexy moments, & well-written forbidden love story!

I LOVE Walker

This is my very first Meghan Quinn book! I haven’t been able to make her previous books work for me, but I took a chance and picked this one up. I lucked out! Walker is everything I love in a book boyfriend (I’m a sucker for a broody grump), and this slow burn sucked me in and had me nearly panting at certain points. 5 seconds has never been better (IYKYK). I’m so glad I gave this book a shot and popped my MQ 🍒. I will say however, there’s a revelation near the end of this book, and that entire scene made me HATE the heroine (and I already hated the other instigator for the entire story), but my love for Walker got me through!
