Story
Two backcountry skiers find the body of a young woman embedded in the ice of a remote mountain creek. All through the night, police work with arc lights and chain saws to dig her out. But identification doesn't take as long. Abbie Cooper is wanted for murder and acts of eco-terrorism, and her picture is on law-enforcement computers all across America. But just how did she die? And what was the trail of events that led this joyous, golden child of a loving family so tragically astray?

Part epic of Texas, part classic coming-of-age story, part unflinching examination of the bloody price of power, The Son is a gripping and utterly transporting novel that maps the legacy of violence in the American west with rare emotional acuity, even as it presents an intimate portrait of one family across two centuries. Eli McCullough is just twelve-years-old when a marauding band of Comanche storm his Texas homestead and brutally murder his mother and sister, taking him as a captive.

The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia. Keith Rudy and Hugh Malco grew up in Biloxi in the sixties and were childhood friends, as well as Little League all-stars.

Story
Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives at the idyllic getaway, she’s pleased to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells—and he’s eager to introduce her to his easygoing way of life. But there are things Grace discovers that she’s not too pleased about: a lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn’t right with the ranch.

Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Riveting story of wolves vs man
This story about the conflict between ranchers and wolves was mesmerizing. It’s a war. I felt bad for the wolves. Imagine a town with a ride built on wolf skulls. The town called Hope.

Good Book by Nicholas Evans
I found this book to be both entertaining and informative. I love the story-telling skills of Nicholas Evans. This book had every element needed to keep the reader eagerly anticipating each new turn in the story. I gave this one 4 stars.

Made me feel Wolf Smart
What did you love best about The Loop?
I loved that The Loop gave facts about an on going issue in a story that was easy to listen to. I appreciated the real issue that was incorporated.
What other book might you compare The Loop to and why?
I might compare this book to Barbra Kingsolver's "Flight Behavior" because of the real life environmental concern.
Did John Bedford Lloyd do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I loved listening to this book on audible because I felt like John Bedford Lloyd did an amazing job at differentiating all the characters. The voice of the characters make them more alive than ever and bring more personality to each character
If you could rename The Loop, what would you call it?
The Loop is really a great title for this book. I suppose if I were to rename it I may call it "Wolf Slaughter."
Any additional comments?
I think I would have enjoyed this story more if the author would have concentrated a little more on wolves. I enjoyed the love story, but it was not my favorite part of the story.

More than a wolf story
This is a story about wolves; those who revere them and those who hate them. It will hold your interest from beginning to end. But the deeper story is about discrimination. How humans jump to conclusions and pass it on from generation to generation without scrutiny. This could have been about race or religious discrimination. You'll particularly find disgust in the loop used to trap pups and lure the adults. I think your emotions will come out and I think you will enjoy the book.
