Publisher's summary

Stealing objects for supernatural clients is my bread and butter. Murder? Not so much.

With the help of my witchy best friend and a sexy grim reaper agent, we can survive anything...

...right?

In this pulse-pounding omnibus, follow along as Veronica Neill battles a rising zombie apocalypse, discovers new realms, and navigates political and royal intrigue. From dodging a Death Enforcement Agent to battling fae mages, Veronica's journey twists and turns with every step.

Good story but seems to take forever

Unfortunately, because of the length of the series it seem to stretch out forever. I only made it through 3 books.

Excellent Read

Book 1
Once again a new author for me. All I can say is I am hooked. She has created some intetesting characters and I am really starting to like reapers, they make interesting characters.
Veronica Neill is an avian shifter who has a unique job. She is the finder of all things magical and cherished. If someone wants something they hire her and she acqiures it let's say. She is a phoenix and the last of her kind. When she is hired by a vampire to acquire a magical box she gets set up. She breaks in to steal it but italready gone. Then she is framed for murder. Shr teams up with a reaper to find out who committed the murder and a long the way she uncovers hidden truths about her brothers death.

Book 2
This one was just as good as book 1. I really like Veronica, she is a strong character. I love the fact that she's a phoenix. They are a creature I know little about so it's fun learning about what a phoenix can do.
After being cleared for murder Veronica didn't stay out of trouble for long. She finds an undead creation stumbling across a Miami beach and she believes the abomination was created by a necromancer. That is a highly illegal practice. After telling her friend the reaper, who she would like to have as a boyfriend if he wasn't dead, she gets sucked into an investigation by the Death Enforcement Agency. Since they had used her as bait to catch the murderer in book 1, they knew she would be a big help. The task of finding the necromancer responsible leads her and the reaper on a wild search. They will discover a horrible plot, extreme danger and major deception.

Book 3
So much going on in this one. Veronica got sent to Tuscon to hide after her last disaster. The Death Enforcement Agency wanted her under lock and key for her own safety. She gets a job at a book store to try to have some normalcy. It was going pretty well until on her way home from work she passed a reaper. Her spidey senses were tingling so she tried to follow. She ended up finding him in an alley being attacked by 3 mages. They are wielding some sort of special knife that can kill reapers which is hard to do. When the last mage, a female opens a portal just as Veronica strikes. Her return to the agency is a surprise and when she shows the knife it opens up a whole new set of problems. Someone wants the magic for horrible reasons. Angels wings are being taken and reapers are being attacked . They need to catch whoever is doing it before they succeed with their evil plans. Can't wait for the next book.

Amazing!

Each book is filled with action, snark, and a little bit of steam. Supernatural cases keep popping up. Little things at first and then they start escalating leading to a bigger picture. Not to mention things with Veronika and her past aren't what they seem and Veronika is determined to find out the truth and discover what's really going on. The story is unique with good flow, I like getting lost in it, waiting to see what happens next.

I loved the first three books in the Last Phoenix, Joanna Roddy has done an amazing job bringing Veronika Neal and associates to life. I'm looking forward to the next three books and I'm crossing my fingers that an audio box set will be released soon.

Interesting storyline.

Was a pretty good listen. The narrator could do a better job on the voice differences but overall was pretty good story

Phoenixes, reapers, and shifters, oh my.

She's a promise-breaking thief... And one of my new favorite characters. While promise-breaking, and thieving aren't necessarily traits to admire, Veronica doesn't try to pretend she's anything else. She embraces her strengths and faults, which makes me like her, and her chosen job title of "Acquirerer of Fantastical Things."

Veronica is also loyal to her friends, courageous, independent, and determined to get at the truth of her past and family secrets that keep popping up, no matter how painful or devastating. In the moment, even her rash decisions make sense.

The stories feature interesting side characters, action, adventure, a slow burn romance with a touch of love triangle, drama, magic and mystery. They're fast paced, well-written, and the narrative and dialogue feel natural. A variety paranormal beings are featured, and the world building for phoenixes, reapers, and angels is unique.

Joanne Roddy does a great job of giving life to the characters, especially Veronica.
