Publisher's summary

One small handwritten letter, sent from a dark, remote corner of the planet and lost in the system for 60 years, is about to change the entire human race.

Outside Denver, Colorado, Joe Rickards stands over a small aircraft wreckage, studying burnt remains still smoldering in a field of freshly fallen snow. He's an investigator for the NTSB, working to carefully roll back the last several hours and identify the cause of the accident.

But this time, he can't.

The details behind this tragedy don't add up. Unlike every other investigation of Joe's career, the facts make no sense. Each new piece of information only makes the accident more mysterious, and more baffling.

Why would a person receive an age-old letter and suddenly disappear into the thick of night...paying to be flown out of a closed airport in the worst possible weather conditions by a pilot who hadn't had his hand on the stick in years? With the only surviving relative insisting her grandfather would never have climbed into a small airplane in the first place, even in perfect weather.

A bizarre string of events culminating in a horrible accident unlike anything Rickards has experienced. Leaving his only hope at understanding it in the hands of the victim's sole remaining relative. Beginning with how a mysterious letter could turn up after being lost in the system for 60 years. Sent by someone who should have already been long-dead.

A single letter Joe Rickards is about to discover, with a secret that will change the entire world.

Abrupt unsatisfying ending

I loved the first 95%. The ending though for me at least was unbelievable and generally unsatisfying. It ended very quickly and while I enjoyed most of the book, the ending mildly ruined the whole book for me. It easily could have been extended just a bit with much more polish at the end. I would rate this as 5 stars for the majority of the book and 1 1/2 stars for the ending.

Totally Awesome

Loved the story, suspense and the experience. I can’t wait for the next one. You are still holding the top spot of my favorite authors. Please keep going strong and keep writing.

Great Listen

A very good story and a prelude to a follow on? I couldn’t help but enjoy the characters and found myself rooting for them as the story developed. Scott Brick does his typically great job, though I think at times a little less drama could have been better.

Highly recommend and hope there is a follow on.

Good Story but production is terrible

Loved the story and Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators but the production is awful. Log gaps between chapters, audio is sometimes clipped after the long gap, which made me think I had inadvertently shut off my IPOD.

Engaging and Thought Provoking

Great story that kept me coming back every time I had a few minutes. The truths revealed toward the end are timeless.

Great book.

It was a superb book. The only part that was a little weak was the soliloquy at the church. It eventually was explainable, but getting there was a little dry. The other part was the meeting with his mother in law. I felt it needed to be lengthened or dropped. Keep writing Mr. Grumley and I will keep reading.

Story a little lame

The story didn’t grab me like the Breakthrough series did. Scott did his usual great job, but the story was lacking in substance.

Exciting Easy Listen

National treasure meets Indian Jones and the Crystal Skull.

Quick moving easy listening story that is not predictable as you normally find in this genre.

Great narration by brick as expected.

Exciting, Mysterious and Magical!

I was new to this author's material. I found it intriguing, fascinating, well developed, interesting and captivating. The various characters' stories intertwined in unexpected ways and the narration took the listener by the hand to discover new and clever twists and turns. I definitely recommend it.
