Publisher's summary

A horse race in trousers on Rotten Row. Visiting a gaming hall in a dress that would make her mother faint. Sneaking an invitation to a masquerade ball attended by only the wickedest, most debauched members of society....

None of these things are scaring off bookish but strong-willed Amelia Bishop's stuffy, egotistical fiance.

The only thing left is to entice childhood friend Nicholas Wakefield into a truly engagement-ending scandal. The Wakefields are the height of propriety, and Nicholas's parents have made it clear a wife from the neighboring Bishop family would be unacceptable....

But Nicholas would give up his family and his fortune if Amelia would ever see him as more than just a childhood friend. He'll go along with her scheme, even if it means ruining them both, because he's got a plan that will change her mind about him being merely the boy next door.

Contains mature themes.

A very nice listening experience.

A little twist in a lifelong friendship provokes the romance in this story. With everyone calling everyone else by their first names and intermingling their titles it did get confusing in the beginning but soon things and people became unconfused and you could get on with the story. Delightful characters with personalities galore … each individual. Good narration, too.

Completely Enjoyed!

I enjoyed this start to finish. The female main is strong and yet still puts others before her. She definitely has some everywomen characteristics. The mains have been life long friends in the country and due to our FMC sister’s disability the family has been snubbed. Especially by the neighbors. Our hero is called home from gallivanting around to take care of a family issue. At this point the books feels like a downer with no way up but that’s why it’s the length it is. It needs all that time for our couple to make the journey from care takes to living for themselves. If you ever made that journey it’s a long lesson to learn. It’s beautiful written interwoven with humorous moments to balance out some of the FMC desperation and Pollyanna tendencies. She is strong even when putting others first . She knows her own mind and is adding to herself throughout the books.
It does however have a lot of modern themes. I never found them jarring so hard to pull me out they were like wrong notes easily forgiven.
I found the narrator to be one of the best.
It has more sex then I’m use to towards the end but everyone’s nice to everyone.

Funny repartee

I enjoyed this book because they were really funny as they talked with one another. Probably more current day talk versus what was happening in the 19th century, however, it made me giggle.

EXCELLENT

Loved this story, it had all the pieces of adventure, character development & frustrations between leading heroines. My favorite, Jasper, absolutely love him!!

A hilarious and steamy romance I could not put down

The characters were so vibrant and bursting with wit and humor, I was taken from the start. I seriously loved this book from start to finish. It was like reading a gothic comedy, such a wonderful story I highly recommend!

Cute story

I liked the premise behind this story, especially the main characters and their relationship. It did drag on, though, in terms of progression and conflict. The end was also a bit anticlimactic.
