Publisher's summary

An inspirational and heartwarming novel for lovers of Mitch Albom and Andy Andrews, blending elements of It's a Wonderful Life and Field of Dreams into a moving story all its own.

Four rounds. Four heroes. Four life-changing lessons.

On the morning of his 40th birthday, Randy Clark believes the only way he can help his family is to end it all. Standing on the Tennessee River Bridge in Decatur, Alabama, with his dreams of a pro golf career long gone, his marriage struggling, and facing financial ruin, Randy sees no other alternative to help his wife and daughter but to jump, which he plans to do in the next 24 hours.

But his plans are put on hold when the ghost of his best friend - who did live out the fantasy of playing the PGA tour - reveals to Randy that he will be given a wonderful gift: four rounds of golf with his four heroes, the champions he's looked up to his whole life, each with a life-changing lesson to impart.

For anyone who has ever dealt with tragedy, adversity, or failure, The Golfer's Carol will bring grace that stays with you long after you've listened to the last moments.

Critic reviews

"Inspirational fiction is a tough genre for a writer because the story must ring true or its power is lost. The Golfer’s Carol - the latest offering from best-selling author Robert Bailey - is sharp in its dialogue, real with its relationships, and fascinating in details of the game. That combination not only reveals how well Bailey nails the concept, it greatly increases the power and value of what will be a ‘go to’ gift for many people." (Andy Andrews, New York Times best-selling author of The Noticer and The Traveler’s Gift)

"A fun, fast read, this novel kind of sneaks its wisdom up on you. I thought it splendid." (Homer Hickam, author Rocket Boys and Carrying Albert Home)

“A celebration of faith, family, and the human spirit, The Golfer’s Carol is a page-turning story of love and second chances that is sure to become a classic. The four inspiring lessons will stay with readers long after the last page is turned.” (Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump)

Slow in the middle

It’s a good story. However, the pace slowed down around chapter 11. I stuck w it through the slow (and repetitive) part and was pleased w the ending.

Fabulous book

My dad was a golfer. Listening to this story took me back to days of watching the Masters with my dad. Robert Bailey did another great job with this story.

Book is entirely different from author’s other work

Really good book for me. I see it as a modern take off of a Christmas Carol with a golf family theme.

Maybe I enjoyed it as I’m a lifelong golfer. But I felt it offered many great life lessons.

Highly recommend this audiobook

Inspirational

I found this is my play list and started listening to it, wow this book just blue me away. I'm not a golfer but that didn't matter this books tells a story of a man thinking he's a failure and contemplating suicide, then he is visited by his friend who has just died...this book looks at four things in life: Self Control, Resilience, Wisdom of Believing In Yourself and Forgiveness. Arnold Palmer's visit to Randy I found inspirational. The narrator takes you on a journey he was wonderful, very smooth.

Eye-opening | Inspirational!

Every so often I come upon a book that I want to share with everyone that I know and hope they read it. This is one of those books. It is filled with life lessons, quotable quotes, humor, tear causing talks, and more.

Even if you never heard of a Texas wedge or a driver, you will enjoy this book. The main character, Randy - is going through a tough time in his life. Self-doubt - debt - despair | Then his 'best-friend' dies in a car crash sending him into a world filled with lessons and truths!

This book will make you laugh, cry, and think. As noted, even if you are not a golfer, you will enjoy this book.

Four rounds. Four heroes. Four life-changing lessons.

A must listen! To learn the life lessons.
