The First Time Manager Series has sold over 500,000 copies and is a go-to guide for new and aspiring sales managers on what to expect and how to succeed.

The jump from sales superstar to sales manager has made or broken many a sales career.

As a top-performing sales professional, you know how to own your calendar, focus your energy, create opportunities, navigate the sales process, negotiate, and close deals. Yet, if you are like most new sales managers, there is still so much you don’t know and that can trip you up if you aren’t careful.

Luckily, Mike Weinberg knows the pitfalls to avoid and mindset changes needed to successfully make the leap. This powerful new resource contains candid guidance on how to master your expanded responsibilities like a pro:

  • Know Your Role: You have been entrusted with the most critical job in your business.
  • Cultivate the Manager Mindset: Your new role is very different from your old role, and it requires an all-new mindset.
  • Lead Your Team: Bad things happen when you attempt to do your people’s jobs. It’s a habit many new sales managers fall into but it’s a lose-lose proposition. Learn how to lead, coach, and hold your salespeople accountable, instead of the unsustainable and unscalable approach of trying to do their jobs for them!
  • Create a Winning Culture: Learn how to build a healthy culture that maximizes performance while connecting on a heart-level with your people.

Don’t let your promotion become a trial by fire. Turn to this book to hit the ground running.

So much wisdom in one book!

This is the second book I’ve read by the author and it was incredibly impactful, in fact I finished listening in one day. I couldn’t stop listening because of the very rich, relevant and reflective content provided. I found that Mike Weinberg actually met me in so many of my regular leadership scenarios, which was refreshing because sometimes you read a book with broad concepts. You can be confident that nearly anything you’ve faced, he addresses why, how it happened, what to do from here, etc. So many moments of I’m not the only one experiencing this or that’s fantastic I’m doing it right! I absolutely will use the resources on the site for additional self reflection and edification. Additionally, I am excited to employ strategies for interviewing which were so unique. Just so many nuggets of great wisdom packed into one book!

Must read for all sales managers, new or experienced

Finished this audiobook in one day and loved every minute of it. Sales management simplified was instrumental for me in my first year of sales management and two years later, this book served as a great reminder of some of the core principles of sales management and introduced some new concepts as well. Mike’s voice is easy to listen to which made it an enjoyable listen. Highly recommend this to anyone in the business of sales leadership

The. Best. Book. for New Sales Managers!

Typically, most new Sales Managers are promoted Sales Reps looking to advance their careers. The transition can be difficult at first but it's super important to start right by pouring your "managerial" foundation with solid advice and wisdom. This book covers all of the main areas where most new sales managers struggle and teaches the sound methodologies on how to approach them. It's a gem field of sales gems and wisdom. My favorites are focused on areas like 1 on 1 accountability meetings, how to manage your bench of A Players and D players, avoiding the "sales hero" status, and areas of focus that you should be putting most of your time into to maximize your sales team's results. Whether you're a new sales manager or have been around the block for a while, grab a copy or listen in the car. There is no possible way you can walk away from this book without learning something beneficial to level up in your professional development.

This was a distillation of years of content from his podcast.

I will open by saying that I am not a sales manager but I am trying to take steps to ensure success when that opportunity arises. I am an avid listener of Mikes podcast on sales management and using his “focus on the fundamentals” approach to sales; I have created a imaginary manager where I manage myself asking “what would Mike say”By following the directions of what imaginary Mike’s advise; I hit 172% of my number and had the best performance my territory has ever recorded and my pipeline is strong because I practice targeted prospecting with time blocks dedicated to prospecting and other revenue generating task. As I mentioned; I am not a manager but what I would give to work for a manager that would practice even 80% of the advice found in this book. I really appreciate the advice on slowing down and doing things right. It reminded me of how greatest sales calls often involve methodically asking about implications before jumping into the more exciting and instinctive solutions and offering. “The first time manager: sales” is a distillation of years of podcast material and though I have notes form listening; this was still worth the purchase. I just wished I could get my management to read/listen to this book.

Simple yet extremely impactful guide to ensure fast success as a new sales manager.

As a brand new sales manager I was looking for easily understandable guidance & best practices for leading a sales team. This book has become an essential part of my management journey and I’m actively utilizing many of the tools including Mike’s guide for running one-on-ones and his essential interview questions. Highly recommend this book, I’ve already reread many of the sections multiple times.
