Publisher's summary

"It's suicide, Shyla. You're the prize they want".

Through her courage and tenacity, Shyla Sun-Kissed has awoken the power of The Eyes of Tamburah. But this feat only marks the beginning of the challenges that the magical order, the Invisible Sword, faces to free the underground city of Zirdai.

Though they have allies among the monks and splinter cells inside the city, Shyla knows the Invisible Sword doesn't have the strength to win. With the group fracturing due to the strain of losses from their latest ordeal, thinly veiled suspicions and endless disagreements, it's up to Shyla to forge a new united order.

When both the draconian Water Prince and brutal Heliacal Priestess learn of Shyla's new powers, life becomes even more complicated as they will stop at nothing to capture Shyla and take the magic of The Eyes for themselves. Hunted at every turn and unable to hide, Shyla and the Invisible Sword must use every resource at their command - and unearth new ones - in their race to save the city from destruction. But their enemies always seem to be one step ahead. And the cost to win the battle may be more than Shyla would ever be willing to pay...

Come along for this fast paced adventure!

Maria V. Snyder does not disappoint! Gabra Zachman is a joy to listen to! This story is full of twists and turns that make it difficult to stop listening till you reach the very end. As always, Maria’s characters have depth and live in exotic worlds that are easy for the reader to slip into and feel you are a part of the story. I know that writing well takes time but her stories are so good that they are easy to devour. Looking forward to the next book in this series - the King of Koraha! If you have not read her Chronicles of Ixia series - I highly recommend it as well!

These just get better & better

Being a long time reader of Maria Snyder, I had high expectations for this book. And I was not disappointed.

The story was well paced, and kept me coming back for just one more chapter, even when I should have been studying or sleeping.

The audio book seemed really well done with a reader who did justice to the characters and the story.

Overall, I cannot recommend this enough!

Snyder hits it again!

Maria V Snyder has done it again! I didn't think she could surpass The Healer series, my favorite, but these new characters in a unique and fascinating land have captured my heart. I'm excited for the continuation.

Even better

Im not surprised that this is even better than the first. The twists were maze-like and believable for me. I was completely engrossed in the story of Shyla and the others. There was one moment that I did not see coming. My husband asked me why I gasped as though I’d seen a cockroach. I couldn’t explain it to him. But I felt a personal sense of betrayal.

Im going to get book 3 at once! This one ended on a cliffhanger of sorts. Current events were wrapped up nicely, but the hook for boom three was solidly baited.

I bit.

Excellent

The city of Zirdai was an excellent follow up to the forward book in this series and was absolutely worth the listen for me! The story starts out a little slower, but we learn a lot in that time and the story picks up like crazy and is worth it. I enjoyed the characters and especially watching them figure out what their new roles. I would absolutely recommend.

Good, but not my favorite M. V. Snyder

I have listened to almost all of Snyder's books and liked them. GZ does a great job as a narrator. But this series was not my favorite. Shyla's character drove me crazy. She kept making dumb thoughtless decisions. I spent a lot of time fast forwarding.
