Publisher's summary

Year 2522. Lyra Daniels is dead.

Okay, so I only died for 66 seconds. But when I came back to life, I got a brand new name and a snazzy new uniform. Go, me! Seriously, though, it's very important that Lyra Daniels stays dead, at least as far as the murdering looters know.

While dying is the scariest thing that's happened to me, it morphed my worming skills. I can manipulate the Q-net like never before. But the looters have blocked us from communicating with the rest of the galaxy, and now they believe we've gone silent, like Planet Xinji (where silent really means dead).

A Protector Class spaceship is coming to our rescue, but we still have to survive almost two years until they arrive - if they arrive at all. Until then, we have to figure out how to stop an unstoppable alien threat. And it's only a matter of time before the looters learn I'm not dead and return to finish what they started.

There's no way I'm going to let the looters win. Instead, I'll do whatever it takes to save the people I love. But even I'm running out of ideas....

Best Sequel Ever!

Even more action packed than Navigating the Stars. The world building continues to evolve and the characters grow and change. I would suggest reading the 1st book in the series before starting this one as it takes off right where that one ends. Can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

Great middle Book

Very good continuation of series. Lira a.k.a Ara is has matured (but still acts 17/almost 18) and is doing great job of finding self. She is very selfless; always sacrificing for her family. And she has learned that family doesn't mean only biology.

I adore Nile and am so glad Maria V. Synder didn't separate the couple for a book or more (as she is prone to do in her books). And the surprise of what the Q-net really is...very imaginative! Though I expect nothing less from the author, she has created a very good sci-fi world. There are very good twists in both story and world. And I love that the whole story revolves around the Chinese terra cotta soldiers and what we do not know about what is beyond the Milky Way galaxy!

If you love Ms. Snyder's writing and storytelling as much as I do (2nd only to Harry Potter), then I believe you will enjoy this story.

And as to the narrator...Gabra Zackman...all I can say is "WOW!" She IS my favorite! (I might have done better in college Math if she narratored the problems/teacher's lectures. 🤔)

Literally breathtaking!

I think that Chasing the Shadows was perhaps my most anticipated book of the year. But, even when it arrived, I was hesitant to start the book, because this is the follow up to what has so far, been a perfect story, which started with Navigating the Stars... And, seriously, how can you maintain that kind of creative momentum?!?? Welllll... Maria V Snyder did exactly that, and wrote the 'Perfect' sequel!
The world building with the fantastic back drop of Terracotta Warriors, the archaeology, the aliens (quaintly called shadow blobs), the looters, along with all of that breathtaking action is just so awesome that it quite appropriately, took my breath away!
Through it all Gabra Zackman was right there, bringing the adventure to life for me!
I'd say you really need this Astounding YA book, but first, get its predecessor in the series, and catch up so you'll be ready for this Amazing tale!

Dang! Now I've got to try to be patient until the next book is ready!

Fascinating

A little slow to get into this one because of all the set up of this other world, but well worth it!
