Publisher's summary

Are you willing to save those who seek to destroy you?

Tempest traveled to the Firegrove and discovered he is The Aspect; however, the world does not work on the word of a secluded dryad queen, and the last thing the Iðnan Ruling Council wants is to give up their power.

Tempest must use his wits to survive the world of political espionage all while safeguarding himself from abductors, uprooting secret organizations, and defending the world from the growing threat of horrors that spawn from unknown planes.

While the burden of responsibility and loss weighs heavily on the man born to be its savior, he must lean on Riika, Ella, and a new band of allies and companions to defend the world from those who seek to destroy it.

This audiobook contains harem elements and explicit content.

great story and great narration

this was a great second addition to the series. ajax has created a very interesting world that I can't wait to further explore. the mc is relatable and easy to like. the romance picked up a bit from the slow burn of the first book but didn't totally dominate the story like so many of the genre do. good action and the politics didn't bore me.the pace of the story was consistent. rebecca woods is easily in the top tier when it comes to narration. although not a duet she is able to act easily distinguishable male voices which is hard for some. if you like adventure and monster girls, go buy the first and second book. you won't be disappointed. typically im not much of a reader but I've decided to go ahead and jump into the 3rd book that was released today. it's that good.

That ending though...

So the ending does make me wonder if there will be a book 3. However, with the girl's conversation I'm sure that if there is a book 3, it will be good.

She’s a keeper (minor spoiler)

Rebecca’s A cappella singing shows why she is one of the best narrators in the business.

The story line was a little predictable and it is the average reluctant harem builder, who struggles to understand the most recent op skills he gains just before he needs them. However, the way Rebecca is able to make the characters sound different and her ability to keep the story rolling with very few editing gaffes, this is a decent overall experience.

eeeh

everyone hates a cliffhanger. It has been a while since I listened and I love the narration and story but couldnt understand why I gave it a mediocre rating. well the cliffhanger explains it.
if you do not mind waiting a year to read the next volumn. I recomend to wait for 3rd to come out to read 2nd. cliffhanger solved.

Excellent.

I can pleasantly say that this was better than the first. I thoroughly enjoyed rebecca's voice acting and the story adding some new characters to the mix that really livened up the story line. Eagerly awaiting book 3.

Annoying

The protagonist is basically a Skyrim npc, he completely loses any suspicion with what's happening around him within seconds.

Great second book, Rebecca impresses again!

Before I get to the book I have to say again that I am super impressed with Rebecca's narration again! Her "dude" voice is still a little high pitched but damn she's close to being on par with Andrea Parsneau. Her range of voices and accents continues to improve and impress. I really hope she gets more solo work in the future!

As for the book, good character development, good plot line, great writing! Glad I stumbled into this series and looking forward to the next installment.

Great Performance, Decent Narrative, Rough Pacing.

I rather enjoyed the first book and felt it had a nice pace to it as it built up to a decent ending, though it's harem elements were more a tease than an actualization.

In this one we get much more time spent developing relationships and really examining the characters, but the story beats are not well paced out. Many subplots are introduced and then left completely unmentioned or acknowledged by the book's finale. While there is indeed a sequel, it's not like a dangling subplot left to be fixed later, but rather new more severe story elements render those previous subplots moot. Like what point is there to help a little old lady get her cat out of the tree when a meteor destroys the woman's entire house with her inside of it? It's just odd to spend so much time developing these story beats and intriguing plots just to cast them suddenly unresolved at the feet of breakneck pacing that doesn't even acknowledge those elements. So many promises are made, and while it's possible the sequel may make good on them, it would certainly feel a step back to be dealing with minor missions when compared with the grand scale of events unfolding. Rather similar to mopping up side quests after a video game's main narrative concludes, it simply doesn't have the right feel to it, though I am still eager to see what the Author does with these plots. Nothing is a deal breaker, though it certainly feels a bit jolting, particularly at the end. It's like the book can't decide what it wants to be, it tries to be a political fantasy, a harem fantasy, an epic fantasy, a war fantasy, an adventure fantasy, and monster girl porn all at once (though it very tepidly dips it's toe in the latter as it rarely makes use of the monster girl's physiology in any interesting ways). Ultimately it tries to be too many things at once and feels like it under delivers on all of them as a result.

As for the performance, I can say nothing but good praises for Rebecca Woods, she manages to do so many different voices flawlessly and while she doesn't have the same range of deeper masculine voices as her feminine ones, each character sounds unique and only some of her aristocratic highborn ladies feel like they share the same voices. She does such a good job it makes you want to search for other audiobooks by her just so you can hear her expert narration again.

Heartwarming characters

The author has created a world, and characters, that I have quickly become attached to. Wonderful creation in a time where we all could use an escape.
