Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Dr. John C. Maxwell has a message for you and for today's corporate culture fixated on talent above all else: Talent is never enough.

People everywhere are proving him right. Read the headlines, watch the highlights, or just step out your front door: Some talented people reach their full potential, while others self-destruct or remain trapped in mediocrity. What makes the difference? Maxwell, the go-to guru for business professionals across the globe, insists that the choices people make - not merely the skills they inherit - propel them onto greatness. Among other truths, successful people know that:

  • Belief lifts your talent.
  • Initiative activates your talent.
  • Focus directs your talent.
  • Preparation positions your talent.
  • Practice sharpens your talent.
  • Perseverance sustains your talent.
  • Character protects your talent.
  • And more!

It's what you add to your talent that makes the greatest difference. With authentic examples and time-tested wisdom, Maxwell shares 13 attributes you need to maximize your potential and live the life of your dreams.

You can have talent alone and fall short of your potential. Or you can have talent plus, and really stand out.

my fav Maxwell book

Good stories, good points getting made. Many times, I think Maxwell's books are overdrawn out for too simple of a thought. But to be fair, this book was good meditative fodder.

Great read/listen with great points

This was a great read/listen with some strong points. Some points I disagree with. It gave off that pulling yourself up by your boot straps doctrine. Yes people should do the work and be held according for their actions and success. At the same time I also believe there are circumstances in history and the present times that have been targeted at certain demographics that have caused long-lasting damage. Should people use that as an excuse to not progress? Absolutely not. But those who perpetrated the wrong should acknowledge said wrongs and rectify them. I also wouldn't have referenced Rudy Giuliani when it came to discussing talent and leadership. He has presented himself as a circus side show or a step and fetch.

Disappointing Book

Unfortunately this book was very disappointing. The author offers very little in original content as all he continues to do throughout the book is take quotes from others and use them as space fillers. This book also does a great job of stating the very obvious traits of what it takes to be successful. There was nothing insightful or overwhelming that he spoke about that made me think deeply about. Lastly I would expect a book that prides itself on Leadership and Execution to be written by someone with a distinguished background, perhaps someone in politics, business or a military background, this author has done nothing remarkable in terms of leadership or working in any stress related field.
