Publisher's summary

For a town that’s as cute as a button, there sure is a lot of murder.

Louisa Henry’s dream bookshop is up and running. On a trip to deliver a book to one of her customers, Lou stumbles upon the man’s dead body. The police are sure it’s a suicide, but Lou has questions. Clues at the scene and details about the man’s life just don’t seem to add up. The fact that the dead man was the town bully is only one of many things that gives Lou pause. Are the police jumping to the conclusion of suicide so they don’t have to arrest the person who did everyone a favor?

Lou’s also busy helping her best friend, Willow, with preparations for the high school’s annual Spring Fling. But during her time at the drafty old building, Lou finds secrets hidden away no one was meant to see, and she learns her new town might be hiding more than she first thought.

Really enjoyed it!

This was such a fun read! It has it all: books, cats and a mystery! I love Lou and the gang. I can't wait to see what's next for them in the next book!

I was given a free review copy of the audiobook and have voluntarily left this review. The thoughts and opinions expressed are mine alone.

Tense but comfy

Whiskers and Words never disappoints. This might be my favorite in the series with its myriad red herrings and playful small town drama. Would read again and again.

Bullies and Secrets

The second book in the Whiskers and Words Mysteries begins with our intrepid heroine, Louisa Henry, discovering the body of the town bully in an attempt to deliver an ordered book. While everyone else believes the bully’s’ death is a suicide, Louise’s attention to details suggests not and she simply cannot leave things alone. As she and her friends plan the High School’s Spring Fling, she investigates long past history and unearths many hidden secrets in her quest for the truth.

As expected, Eryn Scott delivers a great cozy mystery. I want to see more romance between Louisa and the vet, though Louisa’s grief over her husband is still very new. But Willow and the cop’s relationship is warming up so we have to be satisfied with that for now. I love the cats and books combination and the cats play a definite role in the stories. I know I can trust Eryn Scott to produce a quality book experience!

Jennifer Jill Araya does an excellent job with the narration. She voices the characters well and each person has clear voices. She is easy to listen to and does the book justice.

Likeable characters

I would love living close to this great group of friends. I really enjoy that her cats behave like cats and not super animals. Maybe it’s lucky they don’t live close as I might come home with an armload of books and another great cat too often.

Keeps you guessing

When Louise finds a local who has been known as the town bully since his school years is found dead, but the police think it is a suicide, Louise believes the opposite. Louise is determined to find the killer before they get away with murder.

This is the second book in the series, and the characters' development has come a long way. Lousie and the other characters are realistic; they are not without their flaws. The mystery is well-plotted with well-placed red herrings to throw the reader off the trail.

I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator did a great job bringing out the personalities of the characters. She has a pleasant voice to listen to.

All thoughts and opinions are my own; in no way has anyone influenced my opinion.

Entertaining

Both the author Eryn Scott and narrator Jennifer Jill Araya kept me captivated from the start. It is a cosy mystery set in the town of Button.

Bookshop owner Louisa aka Lou seems to have a habit of finding dead people.

The narrator did a wonderful job and certainly kept me entertained.

There were enough clues spread throughout the story to satisfy my inner Agatha Christie. The intrigue and suspense kept me guessing as I listened to this story.

Fantastic Cozy

Tabby or Not Tabby is book 2 in A Whiskers and Words Mystery by Eryn Scott. I believe that this series is so well written with great core characters and new characters gor this book. Lou loves living in a small town with her BFF Willow as well as owning a bookstore/cat rescue. Life is good IF only she would stop finding dead bodies and discovering long buried secrets! Eryn Scott is one of my favorite authors and she writes exceptional mysteries. Tabby or Not Tabby is such a great audio book as Jennifer Jill Araya brings the book to life with her outstanding narration.
