Publisher's summary

In an abandoned coal mine, a group of fugitives huddle 400 feet beneath the surface of the Earth. To the world, and to the Federal Task Force that has been commissioned to hunt them down, they are known as subversives. Dangerous religious zealots who must be captured and imprisoned before their extremism can infect anyone else. Since the night of her parent’s arrest, Gemma Alcott has been in hiding as a subversive. She’s found a home - and someone to love - but she's never forgotten the love she left behind.

Taylor, a young Task Force officer, believes wholeheartedly in his mission and in the danger posed by subversives. He believes in his mission so much that he detained and imprisoned his own father. But when his first love, Gemma, is captured by a rogue Task Force unit, his loyalties are put to the test.

Facing interrogation and possible death, Gemma must summon the strength - and faith - to protect her friends, no matter the cost. And Taylor must decide if he’s fighting against evil...or for it.

Keeps you wanting more!

Subversive grabs ahold of you on page one and keeps a grip on you until the last page. Great story that keeps you wanting more; having to wait for the next two books in the trilogy is my only complaint. #TeamTaylor

Subversive Book 1

This book isn't for the faint of heart. It is a picture of our world during the tribulation and possibly even how it could be for our country in the near future for Christians.

Subversive vs Task Force

Subversive is Book 1 of the Subversive Trilogy by Raena Rood. I have already read all 3 books in this trilogy and they are fabulous. Listening to Subversive was like visiting a friend. Colleen Wright was outstanding in bringing the story to life. Gemma Alcott is a Christian at a time when being a believer in Jesus Christ is against the law. Although Subversive is a work of fiction, I believe that Raena Rood did an outstanding job of making the story very believable. There are so many surprises and twists and turns. Subversive will keep guess until the last word!

Fleshing Out Luke 21:19, Matt10 and Matt24

Narration was very slow, soft in tone but for all that pretty well done.

It's early days during the Tribulation from Revelation. In this story Matthew ch10 and ch24 and Lu21:19 are fleshed out. Believers are called dangerous subversives who must be detained and retrained if possible. Task Force soldiers are trained to locate, arrest and retrain subversives. Lots of regular former church goers are simply Denying HIM, as Saviour, as Lord and King YHWH. Sons turn against Fathers. Wives against husbands. Friends against neighbors. Every one that is "not" a subversive has a "story" about why they refuse to accept HIM. Into this mess comes love. Gemma loves Taylor. Taylor loves Gemma and the Task Force. Gavin loves Gemma. There are 3 very clear psychopaths among the Task Force characters, including the leader of a Rogue unit Col. Carver. The book starts out with a graphic scene that immediately reminds the reader "WHO" this is really all about. I liked most of the story except in one very real, very correctable way. Gemma is a coward. She has hand2hand combat training but doesn't utilize it at all. It makes me think that the author should watch several Krav Maga movies, especially those about getting out of a chokehold or kicking a knee, doing an elbow strike, stomping on an instep, and using coffee or other liquid as weapons. It's important to utilize at least 3 moves to incapacitate someone long enough for a victim to safely run. She doesn't even force herself to breathe deeply when she's panicking so she can think and plan. It looks like she's beginning to acquire a backbone in the end. Love the final twist! Can't wait for the next book.

I was given this audiobook free and of my own choosing in order to give an unbiased review.

thought provoking, terrifying, exciting!

Jenna is a young lady living in a world that is forcing a major decision. Are you Christian, or not? If you are a Christian, your life is on the line. She must decide one, does she stand strong for her faith, and, Taylor or Gavin. Which one will she end up with? he will be hooked from page 1. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Didn't realize this book is geared towards YA.

I'm a grown man with kids lol I didn't expect this to be what it is and I'm having a very hard time enjoying it. I'm only 2 hours in and I think that'll be the end of it for me. I just can't enjoy a book with so much sappy hand holding and emotional teenage jargon. Not my cup of tea at all!
