Publisher's summary

Book six in the Gaunt's Ghosts series

On a battlefield in the Sabbat Worlds, the struggling forces of the Imperial Guard are locked in a deadly stalemate with the dark armies of Chaos.

Listen to it because

Deadly trench battles and a mysterious house form the two threads of this epic story, along with the continuing feud within the regiment and the fallout from the shocking conclusion of the previous book in the series....

The story

On the battlefields of Aexe Cardinal, the stalwart forces of the Imperial Guard are locked in a deadly stalemate with the dark armies of Chaos. Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt and his regiment, the Tanith First and Only, are thrown headlong into the living hell of trench warfare, where death by an unseen enemy is always just a moment away. The only chance for Gaunt and his lightly armed scouts to survive is to volunteer for a mission so dangerous that no one else dares accept it.

Written by Dan Abnett. Narrated by Toby Longworth.

An Abnett classic

I love listening to the Gaunt's Ghosts series. I have them in physical and digital form and having them on audio is an inevitability.
This book is a great listen and a must, but I am anticipating Sabbat Martyr more and the Lost series.
Also, since we have Double Eagle for audio, why not Titanicus too? PLEASE!

More Greatness from the Dynamic Duo

Yet another visceral tale of the Tanith First and Only, Emperor be praised. Straight Silver provides endless excitement, action, and intrigue. Scenes of muddy, bloody combat are expertly penned by Abnett and given form by Longworth's dramatic reading. Don't miss it!

Keeps getting better

Gaunt's Ghosts is one of my favorite series by Dan Abnett. I am stuck after this book because Games Workshop/Black Library decided to record the last few books first, then go back to the beginning. This book leaves me hanging with numerous questions and needing more. This is such a great series! I need more on Audible so I can listen while I am painting m

Longworth delivers another fine reading.

This was the final Gaunts Ghosts book my grandfather read before passing. Excellent reading.

Abnett strikes again.

The bleakest entry in this series so far. Dan Abnett explores some new terrain in the Ghosts' adventure, putting them in new, deadly situations.

Really enjoying this series

Dan’s writing and Toby’s performance are once again excellent. I started listening to this series at work as a way to drown out office noise. Now I find myself listening to each book in my spare time and always looking forward to the next book.

Disappointing conclusion again

Decent, but the weakest so far. The antagonist storyline has gone on about a book too long and it’s beginning to kill my enjoyment of the series.
