Publisher's summary

In the year before The Phantom Menace, Yoda, Mace Windu, and the entire Jedi Council confront a galaxy on the brink of change.

The Jedi have always traveled the stars, defending peace and justice across the galaxy. But the galaxy is changing, and the Jedi Order along with it. More and more, the Order finds itself focused on the future of the Republic, secluded on Coruscant, where the twelve members of the Jedi Council weigh crises on a galactic scale.

As yet another Jedi Outpost left over from the Republic’s golden age is set to be decommissioned on the planet Kwenn, Qui-Gon Jinn challenges the Council about the Order’s increasing isolation. Mace Windu suggests a bold response: All twelve Jedi Masters will embark on a goodwill mission to help the planet and to remind the people of the galaxy that the Jedi remain as stalwart and present as they have been across the ages.

But the arrival of the Jedi leadership is not seen by all as a cause for celebration. In the increasing absence of the Jedi, warring pirate factions have infested the sector. To maintain their dominance, the pirates unite, intent on assassinating the Council members. And they are willing to destroy countless innocent lives to secure their power.

Cut off from Coruscant, the Jedi Masters must reckon with an unwelcome truth: While no one thinks more about the future than the Jedi Council, nobody needs their help more than those living in the present.

Brilliant

A brilliant tale of small actions making a big difference. It’s the people that matter. Lots of nuance in this story too

JEDI COUNCIL ROAD TRIP!!

This was a very good story, IMO. It's the only story about the entire Jedi Council doing something together. I think it's also the only story that shows each of the Council members' personalities in full detail......and shows they have a sense of humor!
If you're a long long time SW fan, this shouldn't dissapoint.......

Enjoyed the Cast of Jedi Characters

I enjoyed this book and the different side stories that took place connecting to the overall storyline and other members of the council. It was well written and fun.

Great performance

Always love to hear Marc Thompson narrate. This book was intriguing and a fresh story that included character’s perspectives that we don’t usually get to see. We get a look into the state of the order and council before the phantom menace and see the factors that are slowly eating at the order. Highly recommend.

The Living Force

It starts with a challenge: Help one person. We follow the Jedi Council a year or so before The Phantom Menace on their individual quests to do just that.
This novel successfully handles or 12 POVs flawlessly. I kept imagining the Clone Wars because the characters were so spot on!
Mr Miller thank you!!! This is the Star Wars book I’ve been waiting for.

Great read!

Star Wars: The Living Force may be the best new Cannon Stars book so far, and it is certainly the best in its timeframe.

The author gives you an up-close look at the state of the Jedi Council in the year before the events of the Phantom Menace. I was so intrigued by members of the council who were once mere background characters.

Unlike most of the High Republic books that constantly interject modern-day political takes and viewpoints (or rather, one set of viewpoints) into Star Wars stories, this book mostly avoids that egregious pitfall, outside of maybe a few "industry hurts the environment" sort of comments. (Does Disney even know you guys made this book?)

I consumed this book via Audible, and I recommend it to anyone interested in the prequel era of Star Wars! Thank you for producing a (mostly) free-of-culture-wars-Star-Wars book!
