Really Good

Beautifully written. The Star Wars book I didn't know I needed. The epilogue is perfect and helps redefine (for me at least) the connection of Padme to the original trilogy.
Highly recommend.

Fantastic

The level of respect that this book gave me for the prequels knows no bounds. This book gave so much depth to Padmé and her handmaidens. I think I’ve been a bit unkind to Padmé, but this book gave me so much respect for her. I would love to have a whole series about Padmé’s growth out of the Queen’s Shadow (also the levels of layering that Johnston used around the title blew my mind) and her handmaiden’s. I really can’t recommend this book enough and I so hope we get more. Johnston really does a good job of helping the reader understand that Padmé Amidala and Padmé Naberrie are two totally different people and how those identities are constructed. This book also gave some much needed context to Padmé’s seemingly flat appearance in TPM, so thank god for that. I get it now. I think any Star Wars fan will appreciate this book for its detail and handling of Galactic Politics.

Very Good Insight

Very easy listen. especially having Padme's voice actress from The Clone Wars. We got to see background from her time in the Senate without it being boring. Awesome read for any Padme or Prequel fan.

Needs a sequel NOW!

The politics and culture were so engaging, giving everything that Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones attempted. there are nods of foreshadowing to events in The Clone Wars that enhanced tension similar to how Palpatine's seemingly innocuous presence made the prequels surprisingly nerve-wracking. The performance was flawless, as Catherine Taber's Natalie Portman voice is spot-on. this is one of the few times I've openly cried just from a prologue. The epilogue alone demands a sequel.

Meh...

This story was pretty pointless in regards to the Star Wars universe. It seemed like a chronology of someone's regular life with a few action points. Nothing to add to the Star Wars story. I had to force myself to finish it. I really don't understand the point of this story.

It was alright

It might be a good book for you if you are a fan of Padmé and her hand maidens
It did not have a lot of action though had some interesting moments. Did not really have a plot.
The narration was good though.
Buy this book if
. A huge Padme fan . Like slow paced books . Want to know what she was up to while transitioning from a queen to senator

Do not buy this book if
.you love action . Hate Padme .hate politics . Hate stories with no plot

love padme

Padme is my favorite character. I loved hearing how she started in the senate. I'm sure some people would find flaws or say some parts were boring but I loved every second. I especially loved that Catherine narrated it. it was like watching an episode of clone wars only I had to imagine the images. Can't wait for the final book.

Thought this was more of Post-Attack of the clones.

It was alright, but it was more of Padmé figuring her place in the senate out. I thought this would be early clone war era.
