Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz returns with the first novel of the Lost Night Files, an exciting new romantic suspense trilogy about a night that changed three women forever—but that none of them can remember.

Seven months ago, Pallas Llewellyn, Talia March, and Amelia Rivers were strangers, until their fateful stay at the Lucent Springs Hotel. An earthquake and a fire partially destroyed the hotel, but the women have no memory of their time there. Now close friends, the three women co-host a podcast called the Lost Night Files, where they investigate cold cases and hope to connect with others who may have had a similar experience to theirs—an experience that has somehow enhanced the psychic abilities already present in each woman.

After receiving a tip for their podcast, Pallas travels to the small college town of Carnelian, California, to explore an abandoned asylum. Shaken by the dark energy she feels in the building, she is rushing out when she’s stopped by a dark figure—who turns out to be the women's mysterious tipster.

Ambrose Drake is certain he’s a witness to a murder, but without a body, everyone thinks he’s having delusions caused by extreme sleep deprivation. But Ambrose is positive something terrible happened at the Carnelian Sleep Institute the night he was there. Unable to find proof on his own, he approaches Pallas for help, only for her to realize that Ambrose, too, has a lost night that he can’t remember—one that may be connected to Pallas. Pallas and Ambrose conduct their investigation using the podcast as a cover, and while the townsfolk are eager to share what they know, it turns out there are others who are not so happy about their questions—and someone is willing to kill to keep the truth from coming out.

Fast paced, mysterious romance with moments of humor

An interior designer-turned-podcaster and an investigator-turned-author team up to solve a murder while trying to figure out what happened to them when they lost time/memories in separate incidents that disrupted their lives and boosted their nascent psychic abilities. Fast paced, mysterious, with moments of humor and subtle references to the author’s historical Burning Cove series.

Fantastic!

Jayne Ann Krentz is at the top of her game with Sleep No More. This book is the definition of a page-turner. Why? Because Ms. Krentz takes compelling, sympathetic characters and drops them in a fairly isolated location in what seems like a contained plot, but when the layers are revealed, the stakes are high and the ideas are BIG. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of whodunnits have been written, but Ms. Krentz accomplishes that rare feat—she makes it fresh and current.

I’m not going to rehash the plot in this review. Read the book description for that (or better, the book). A perfect example of Ms. Krentz’s skill is the main character, Pallas Llewellyn, who has a podcast. In the hands of a lesser author, a podcast would’ve felt trite, if not forced. But it works perfectly in Sleep No More, as Ms. Krentz artfully weaves a minor subplot and character backstory deftly into the main storyline.

Above all, Sleep No More is suspenseful. No, it’s riveting. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You may lose some sleep (haha), but it’s worth it. Highly recommended!

Read Reviews Last…..

first time, bought before I even knew what book was about. First have to address, has nothing to do with quality of books, I have bought one book with ‘dust bunny’, read the page it was on and never bought another. Just the way we are made…. Book is wonderful! No disappointment. Thank you! New narrator, at least I don’t remember her and she was fine.

Slow moving…

This novel could use more in-depth character development and plot defining. The suspense of the mystery was non existent. The romantic entanglement was just sprung rather than entwined…

Very Enjoyable and Vintage Krentz

I hesitated getting this book because of a couple reviews I read. I am glad I purchased it, though, because it is what I look for and expect from JAK. No mention of Arcane, but there is a Jones in it briefly, and the paranormal ‘rules’ are what we have come to know. It is a refreshing read along the lines of Trust No One and Copper Beach. Fast moving, not gory, and the banter is enjoyable. I recommend the book and the audio version. The narrator is fine, she has done many of JAKs books. Looking forward to the next one.

This is another New to me" author, which actually really surprised me when I saw the list at the back of the book of how many books Ms. Krentz has written. I think, though I'm not sure, that I may have read a book or two under her pen name Amanda Quick many, many years ago.

I really did enjoy this story. It introduces us to the Lost Night Files trio who are desperately trying to uncover the details of an event that happened to the three women. All three of them lost their memory of an entire night and since then they each have enhanced and increased psychic powers.

This is the first book ,but I think there is going to be at least three books because this book featured Pallas' story so that makes me think each of these women are going to get a book.

Pallas meets Ambrose Drake and discovers that the same event happened to him - and garnered the exact same results. (the memory loss with the enhancement of his abilities.) They end up in a small town after Ambrose asks for help from the Lost Files group. Their investigation ends up stirring up a hornet's nest and eventually results in several murders.

The case itself is interesting and I really did like the two MC's. There is information given near the end of the book that informs us that the events that are occurring to these two are part of a huge overarching story arc.

I alternated between listening and reading and had no problems with the narration. The narrator was Eva Kaminsky and she did a fine job.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I enjoyed this book and will be on the lookout for the next book in the series when it comes out.

Paranormal

I had to stop listening to the story since my heartbeat went up and so did my nervousness. I was on my toes till the end and just hope to find out who is behind all this.
