Publisher's summary

A vanished couple. A disoriented treasure hunter. A body with suspicious injuries.

Harry Grimm is starting to feel like a local–almost. But when his quiet happiness is interrupted by a confused 80-year-old detectorist claiming to have seen Medieval knights fighting in a nearby ruined castle, the chief inspector is forced to investigate the bizarre claims. However, his focus is soon split to a second case when a teen and her boyfriend disappear without a trace.

As the unflappable DCI spearheads the search for the young lovers, he and his team confront conflicting witnesses, spiraling hostilities, and enraged families pointing accusing fingers. And with the aging detectorist continuing to cause disturbances around the village, Grimm takes his muddled statements more seriously after the discovery of a brutally battered corpse.

Can this gruff detective follow the cryptic clues to a killer?

Silent Ruin is the dramatic 14th book in the DCI Harry Grimm Crime Thrillers series. If you like beloved casts of characters, dark mysteries, and rising tension, then you’ll adore David J. Gatward’s transfixing whodunit.

Was it Ghosts, or Something Else?

A castle in the dark, figures of knights in armor fighting inside, and a witness who had a bump on the head leads to the main question: was it ghosts or something else?

Narration by Aubrey Parsons is spot on.

Another Fantastic Grimm

I thoroughly enjoy the Grimm series! This book was fantastic and I read it too quickly! The setting, the characters, the storyline are enjoyable and there is always that unexpected twist! Aubrey Parsons brings Grimm to life, I love listening to him!

Not a Focused Story

This is my first Det. Grimm story and I found that too much time was spent on rambling conversations that didn’t have much to do with anything. The ending wasn’t really a conclusion because there was no real ‚why’ regarding the murder and kidnapping. On the plus side, there’s no crude language in the book and that’s a plus these days.

Keep the Grimm story going

Have enjoyed every one in this series. Can almost smell the heather and wish for a pie from Cockett’s.

Enjoyed the characters

The dynamic between characters was fun and interesting. I had trouble near the end hanging with it and wasn't overly fulfilled with the ending, but overall enjoyable listen.

Liked this one the least

I'm bucking the trend of the 5-star reviews here and saying I liked this Grimm book the least of all of them so far. I missed the personal anecdotes of the regular characters that add so much liveliness to his other books. Harry just moved through this one with little humor or "extra-curricular" interest. And the story just wasn't very good. I found it totally unbelievable that it took the team so long to figure out why Alan's business was sold. Well duh. It was entertaining to see how Jason has come along. I love the Grimm books, and I'm not going to stop enjoying them, but I feel this one falls short.

Silent Ruin

The set up was longer than usual for this series, but was necessary for the introduction of the numerous characters. The voice actor is amazing with different accents and consistency with the voice of each different character. A thoroughly enjoyable series.
