## Can she catch the killer before someone else is silenced for good...?

Detective Hanlon is addicted to violence. She likes the rush, the danger, the losing control...

When Hanlon is suspended from the force for assaulting a suspect, she escapes to the remote Scottish island of Jura, home to the mysterious Corryvreckan whirlpool.

But wherever Hanlon goes, violence is sure to follow.

As soon as she checks into The Mackinnon Arms, Hanlon senses something isn't quite right about the staff at her home for the week.

Sure enough, within days of arriving, the body of a member of staff is found floating in the sea. While police believe she was claimed by the local whirlpool, Hanlon isn't so sure.

As she pieces together the evidence, dark secrets begin to unravel. Can Hanlon work out what is going on before another floating body is found...?

Discover an addictive crime series, perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Bryndza and Lisa Regan.

Its hard to like the main character

She's a violent, angry bully on suspension because she hurt one too many people just because it feels good. The story, however, was mostly OK. Too long, I ended skipping through near the end as I was getting bored. I was disappointed the author fell into the trap of making this physically fit female body builder into a lesbian, because of course she would be, right? Instead of a friendship with the local female officer, it had to be sexual. In many respects Hanlon reminds me of JD Robb's Eve Dallas, except for the lesbian aspect. This didn't add to the story, in my opinion, but was simply a bow to current trending opinions supporting the LGB community. Apparently, every book, movie, podcast or TV series is required to have one or more same sex couples. I'll read book 2 (its free), but I won't waste a credit on this author.

Boring

Too long and very boring. Too many unnecessary descriptions. Who cares which colour the shirt of the suspect has? I wanted to know how it ended, so the story was ok, but it should have been a lot shorter.

Not sure how I feel about this one

I neither hated or liked it. It took me a while to get into the story, and I hated the main character about 2/3rd of the novel until she finally sort of grew on me. Though I did predict the ending, the story wasn’t predictable. It had a few mild ‘hiding the gun’ moments. I liked the overall story, but the pace was off for me. The narrator had a strange lethargic way of reading, which wasn’t unpleasant, but also didn’t suit the story

I enjoyed this book

Finally, a woman police officer that can take care of herself. Like all human beings she wasn’t perfect, definitely had issues that she needed to work out. Anybody that thinks she was any worse than many other people in positions of power, is completely full of it! I’m sure that if she were a male police officer “he” would get a pass from those same people.

Pretty solid but….

The LBGT stuff was not significant, but almost seemed like it was thrown in after the fact to be more “current”. The physical feats of the heroine when fighting a well developed male bruise just defy MY imagination...again, it seems like the character was written as a male but changed genders after the fact to make the entire book feel more current. Perhaps making her mentally unstable was supposed to make her physicality and brutality more believable. I first thought this was the writer’s error but, after putting my feeling in writing…it sounds like something an editor might have pushed. I liked the book but found myself listening with a bit of “incredulity.”

A good listen for free.. Some cons, though.

the MC was pretty unlikable for a good portion of the book. And the story was a bit disjointed. I will finish the series, however as it leaves it a bit loose ended

Narrations pacing was weird and there were pauses where I didn't think there should have been. Other than that, not too bad.

Another new author for me to follow, enjoyed this book, the characters and murder were different and good, loved the ending. The narration was very good.

Narrator difficult to understand

The story was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the narration as well, but the thick Scottish accent was difficult to understand at times.
