    "Hard-hitting and amazing"
What made the experience of listening to The Pilgrimage the most enjoyable?

The narrator's voice was spot on for such a book. It really captured the confusion, desperation and "lost" of that Paulo was experiencing throughout the events, and it instantly starts with such emotion which flows through the entire book. Every time you stop to listen to it, bang, you're right back into the world where you know nothing and are questioning everything, purely because of the superb narration.

What other book might you compare The Pilgrimage to and why?

It's like the Alchemist, but head on full on hard hitting lessons - lessons that make you cringe at times, but worth it.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    All of it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It definitely made me uneasy at times... and laugh a few times.

What made the experience of listening to The Pilgrimage the most enjoyable?

I never felt like reading any of Coelho's books since I'm not very "spiritual", but I finally went ahead and listened to this one and at first was just a tiny bit annoying, but it grew on me and till the end I was really captivated by the story and loved the narrative and everything

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not good as the narrator does not do Paulo Coelho justice.

Would you be willing to try another book from Paulo Coelho? Why or why not?

Yes, have read other by this author and have enjoyed.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sean Runnette?

    No sure

Was The Pilgrimage worth the listening time?

No, narration was very difficult to listen to.

Would you listen to The Pilgrimage again? Why?

No doubt to hear messages throughout that I was too absorbed to hear the first time

What did you like best about this story?

There wasnt a "best" it was a story you wanted to learn from, and this meant listening to the end

Have you listened to any of Sean Runnette’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No, first time

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The "Journey" not the "Gym" (where we beat ourselves up)

    Any additional comments?

Paul conveys such a compelling message within all of this book

Coelho is not an "easy" writer to absorb, so I am taking this listening in small doses. There are many layers of understanding that he deals with, and his descriptions of them are amazing.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely reccomend this book to a friend, interesting reading. A decent Coelho book.

What aspect of Sean Runnette’s performance would you have changed?

A decent performance. I do not agree with the others on this site that his performance is irritating. It does not ruin the story at all, it just takes a little getting use too, an I'd preferred that his way of reading was a little less chanting.

    Story
    "Tortuous listening"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

It might be good for someone very spiritual & religious

What was most disappointing about Paulo Coelho’s story?

The reader was one of the 2 worst I've ever experienced with Audible.I assume his style was an attempt to add drama, suspense & mystery to the text, but it was horrendous: overly dramatic, full of lengthy pregnant pauses, affectation, pontification, etc.. The voice of the "teacher" was particularly bad. In addition to the problems previously listed, that character had a foreign accent which came & went. Between the reader's attempts at drama & a sustainable foreign accent, the outcome was dreadful. His interpretation of the narrator's voice was different but equally irritating. The entire work as read was a pretentious, portentous, overblown harangue. It made what is probably a fine book into an excruciating listening experience. I wanted to quit listening after the 1st chapter, but I optimistically forced myself to finish; there was very little improvement.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The book is probably a pleasant and illuminating read, but having heard it read thus, it is unfortunately difficult to separate the style from it's content.

    Any additional comments?

I don't like giving bad reviews, but no way this one gets a pass.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Well it was confusing and boring at the beginning but after few hours came interesting message.

Would you be willing to try another book from Paulo Coelho? Why or why not?

Coelho is a good writer and definitely worth reading, there's something hidden in those stories.

    Story
    "Trite, New Age Drivel"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who enjoys new age books for the brain dead. The exercises at the end of each chapter are supposed to impart some deep and hidden knowledge, but they are like something you'd read in a mass-market self-help book instead.

What was most disappointing about Paulo Coelho’s story?

It was self-important, navel gazing, droning, yecht.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The tone of the book is artificially dramatic and "high."

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was disappointed in this book. It fell far short of the description. Just trite.

    Any additional comments?

    Don't waste your money.

    "Annoying and boring"

There could have easily been much better narrator choices. The narrator does not miss an opportunity to show his linguistic talent which have in many times got me more annoyed than immersed into the story.

The story is terribly breachy. It is a good fit for at a cathedral.
The story lacks suspense and the plot revolves around the individual "Paulo". The scenes move serially from one part to the next. before the first half of the story finishes, you can almost anticipate what will happen next. Not my definition of the best seller.

    "Didn't do it for me"

My friends had told me they loved this book but I could not get to the end of it and I feel the reading didn't help but the book itself is also not for me. It seemed the same voice was being used for anyone who was not the main character but I couldn't feel any sense of drama or emotion.
