Publisher's summary

An intimate, funny, and poignant travel memoir following New York Times bestselling author and actor Andrew McCarthy as he walks the Camino de Santiago with his son Sam.

When Andrew McCarthy's eldest son began to take his first steps into adulthood, McCarthy found himself wishing time would slow down. Looking to create a more meaningful connection with Sam before he fled the nest, as well as recreate his own life-altering journey decades before, McCarthy decided the two of them should set out on a trek like few others: 500 miles across Spain's Camino de Santiago.

Over the course of the journey, the pair traversed an unforgiving landscape, having more honest conversations in five weeks than they'd had in the preceding two decades. Discussions of divorce, the trauma of school, McCarthy's difficult relationship with his own father, fame, and Flaming Hot Cheetos threatened to either derail their relationship or cement it. Walking With Sam captures this intimate, candid and hopeful expedition as the father son duo travel across the country and towards one another.

Great Adventure

A very funny and witty performance that was enjoyable and informative. It was fun hearing the author’s son reading too. A great complement.

wow!

l was deeply affected by this book. I felt like l was there with them. That was fun. Andrew's insights and commentary on Sam reminded me of my son. The ending summed up those 18 years of parenthood as your child becomes their own master. l have read every book of Andrew's. lt is hard to pick a favorite. l love how he is so honest, raw and vulnerable.

A wonderful listen

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The duet/dialogue between father and son made for a touching and sometimes frustrating (in parent - child sort of way) journey story. Highly recommended.

Emotional, inspiring, real life!

Andrews’ honesty, emotion and vulnerability bring this book to life! The true experience of parenthood and journeys, and loving someone more than yourself, and finding your way, and allowing your child to find himself. I loved every moment of their journey.

I truly enjoyed every minute

Join Andrew McCarthy and his wonderfully irreverent and slightly disrespectful but delightful son as they walk the Camino De Santiago across 500 miles of Spain

Great story

Love that he and his son both do the audio version, and Andrew goes back on time and discusses the past as well.

What a privilege to relive my “newbie” walks (100 miles at a time) through your eyes and words.

Such a great story

Listening to this with both Andrew McCarthy and his son's dialogue was so entertaining. I laughed so much through out this story. I took a road trip with my son after his high school graduation and much of the dynamic between parent and child were so relatable. After recently visiting my 22 year old son who is living in Spain this book appealed to me immediately but the audio version was just great. I could relate to so much of the parent son dialogue and at points I felt like I was truly hearing my own son! What an accomplishment to have walked that journey but even more so as a parent and child together at that age. I just loved it and have recommended to many people!

Personal and informative

I could not stop listening! The story was so relatable, even as a mom of younger boys (one who just so happens to be named Sam). I loved the personal anecdotes intertwined with Camino history. 10/10
