"The ever-present conflict between professional life and family life is addressed...through an excellent blend of principle, common sense, and example. Success is possible in both with the proper sense of priority and balance." (Donald G. Soderquist vice chairman and C.O.O., Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.)
"The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families inspires us to create extraordinary family relationships, and provides the practical insights to do it." (John Gray, author of Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus)
When wanting to address family issues, does one want go about it half-effort by reading the abridged version. It would be great if there was an audio version of the full text.
Since I didn't grow up in a home with these principles, it was indeed benificial to me as a parent to listen to Covey's teaching of these "7 habits" and give numerous applications and illustrations (from his own family as well as others), giving me mental images to work with. I'd already been exposed to his original 7 habits book, but this one wasn't a waste. This listen was worth the time and is already making a difference in my family.
Mom, Science Teacher, Kid at Heart. My 52 mile drive to work gives me time to finally stretch my brain. Audible has been a wonderful treat! Thanks Bob!
I've read this book before. It was so powerful I wanted to revisit it's teachings again. The abridged version left much to be desired. I felt the potent message was lost. I'll have to dig out the book read it cover-to-cover over the summer.
Please ask the Covey Institute to record an unabridged version.
I really like this audiobook and wish the unabridged version had been available in audio. I have previousy listened to several of Steven Coveys books and think this one gave a good summary of the 7 principles of effectiveness. The only thing I think is slightly negative is that Covey in most cases uses the same axamples as he uses in earlier books. As one who listens a lot to his teaching it would have given me a new dimention to get "fresh" examples to reflect on.
All in all this audio inspires me and give practical advice to be a better and more understanding parent; to build the "familyteam" :-)
So many concepts that help families of all types. How to work through tough situations within our families, how to have good communication.
Really enjoyed this book. Awesome if you can read it together with your spouse or children.
I like this book a lot and I think it's a valuable thing to read but it's essentially the same book as The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. It was a waste of money. You're better off buying the other book and just applying it to your family. All the content is the same
If you grew up in the church there won't be anything new here for you to learn if your family lived these values; that said those who haven't gone to church will find the language out of their comfort level regardless of the good common sense advice given. It is nice as a short review to solidify existing ideas and gives good examples of what should be a priority in your life. Obviously your listening to this because you already think your family is a priority though so your already on the right track.
I was disappointed to find that the majority of the content was either word for word snippets from the Seven Habits book or very short snippets of speeches on the same stories and examples.
There is probably no more than 30 minutes of original material
