Tara Brach has obviously dealt with both meditation and with people who have need of her counseling. The meditations are heartfull as well as mindfull.
This is a bit silly, as this is not a story but a set of guided meditations, which need someone to read them, which Ms. Brach does well.
The meditations are a comfort and a reminder that mindfulness can change most experiences.
For those who found that they couldn't chose a specific meditation, they weren't using the Audible app. The music app on Apple iOS devices is pretty crappy because it doesn't show chapters. The iPod Nano is fine as is iTunes on a computer, but iPhones/Pods/Pads/Touches are lousy that way.
The Audible app not only lets you navigate to specific chapters but place "bookmarks" at any location. As the audiobook separates the different meditations into chapters, this works well. Get the app. I also use the app on my Nexus 5 phone and it works well for that, too.
This title contains 9 separate meditations but there is no way to tell where each one starts and ends. It seems they are separated by chapter but there is no way to go directly to a specific chapter, you just skip around until you land on one. All audio books should have an easy way to skip back and forth between chapters and bookmark sections to return to.
I love Tara Brach & listen to her podcasts weekly. The meditations are beautiful, but when this is in iTunes, it's impossible to put it into playlists, which, since it's a series of guided meditations, was how I planned to listen to it. So disappointing...I will likely be returning it.
Tara Brach addresses every kind of feeling one might have and with her soothing voice and understanding way of speaking enables the listener to let go of any longstanding tension one might have in any part of the body. You are left with a spacious feeling of relaxation.

I would recommend this to a friend because it is relaxing and the author helps me reach my goal to learn to be more relaxed when mediating.

I recommend this book for those who are new to mediation techniques.
I have liked all of the sessions I've listened to, but I have no way of telling one subject from another or how to find them when I want a particular subject. "You can't tell one player from another without a program!" What would be so difficult about listing which is which? This is like a cookbook without an index or table of contents.
This is like a grab-bag of meditation. Tara Brach is terrific, but finding mediation on a specific subject like fear or grief is a nightmare.
It frustrated me when it wasn't enlightening me.
I know you've gotten lots of other complaints about this subject. I've even gotten written index listings on other meditation tools, but they are not even accurate. Why is this so difficult!?!?
Really good. She ends the last few chapters guiding you through different meditations to change different behaviors. I found it calming, therapeutic.

I felt like I learned so much listening to this. I practiced by sitting quietly through each section, about twenty minutes a night, listening to what she said then following her guided meditations (each one ending with a chime).
