A++++ will listen again
If you’re wondering, as I was: “I already use the app, is the book worth it?”
Yes. I can’t recommend it enough, *especially* if you already use the app or otherwise train in meditation.
I’ve been using the Headspace app on and (mostly) off for about a year. Not as often as I should, there’s at least a month or so I’d completely forgotten about it. But I kept coming back.
For a week or two before getting this though, I’d gone gangbusters on meditation and mindfulness. Something just clicked in my head. Suddenly I went from a few times a week to two, even three times a day, even starting to do unguided meditations. I couldn’t get enough.
Strangely enough, during this time, my mind just seemed like it was getting worse and worse the more I meditated, it was all over the place, which had never happened. It got so bad it began to concern me, so I figured I’d give this book a listen, at the very least I already knew he had a nice calming voice, so maybe it would calm me down.
To my surprise, he addressed the very problem I was having very early on in the book, in a very amusing story about “blaming the meditation”, as the same thing had happened to him.
I won’t ruin the story, but suffice to say it’s normal to feel this way at a certain point in your journey, and many other ways in other points, and the book really explains a lot of things more deeply than the app can.

Remove the meditation myths and learn a better way!
This amazing author shares his pitfalls in meditating during his years in the monasteries as a monk seeking enlightenment and reveals simple ways to become mindful. Ten minutes is all he suggests. Then he continues with practices for eating, walking, running,and getting a great night of sleep.
His voice is mesmerizing with the adorable British accent. If you read one book this year, this is the one. Then practice with the free app. Life is great!!!

Life Changing
The Headspace Guide to Meditation and Mindfulness is a wonderful work! As a Christian pastor who deals with severe anxiety issues, I have searched for exactly what headspace offers (I even subscribe to the app now!). Admittedly, I was concerned about the potential of a heavy push for Buddhism. However, this was not the case. Andy presents the art and practice of meditation and mindfulness in a practical way. This practical presentation offers the benefits of mediation and mindfulness to anyone of any religious affiliation. I am currently up to 15 minutes twice a day, and I can say I have a new found ability to relate to my emotions both positive and negative. I highly recommend this book!

Effective
Was turned on to this book from Bill Gates book list. I really enjoyed it. It was successful in getting me to download the Headspace app and become a paying member! With that said, the audiobook could have left out the ~1 hour worth of guided meditations at the end and left that for the app!

Practical Approach for meditation
There are many ways to meditate and I have tried quite a few. This book feels like the collection of best practices from all ways. I would recommend this to all levels of medetationers.

I really liked this book
When I was first introduced to Andy (the author) it was through the firm I worked for in 2020. They sent us all an email where Andy talking about Headspace. Later we could join Headspace and the firm would cover the costs. I joined and I found learning from Andy was a pleasure. At first I tried various meditations and nothing was really working for me. I had been meditating for years and really I wasn’t drawn to Headspace. Then I discovered the Headspace 365 program and all changed! Over the course of one year I got to know Andy through his teachings by doing the meditations everyday for 365 days straight not missing one day! It was a great program! So, when Audible presented me with the opportunity to hear Andy read a book about his life I figured why not.
Now when the book started I never thought I would hear Andy talking about jumping off walls or getting a degree in being a clown! Well, this is what I received and much more! Andy goes through his life as a monk at various monasteries with all the teachings he learned at them. He mixes his stories with teachings which are great! Some of them I would like to see put in a second Headspace 365 program which I would enjoy!
As you read or listen to this book you will hear what it’s like to be a monk. Some of the lessons Andy went through I could completely relate to because of things which happened in my life or were happening in my life. I liked the last part of the book where he goes through working with clients to help them in their life. The meditations are given in the book can be found in the app as well. Well written, but could be shorter
I found it useful. This was the first time that I read something about meditation / mindfulness and learned a lot. I am sure I will benefit greatly from what I learned. However, the book is a little repetitive. The central message is powerful but could have been written in fewer words. The anecdotes ase not necessary.
