Pema is simply one of the greatest minds of our time. This audio covers some of her older material, but expands into some new thoughts. I have most of her other audio books and this is by far...the best recording I have heard! There isn't the background noise or poor quality that is found in some of the other audio books. If you are thinking of buying any of her work or if you are new to her work then buy this one first. If you have her other work then buy it for the simply for the great quality! Lots of tools in this also. It is quite concise and great clarity on all levels. Thank you Pema...you have given so much needed wisdom.
This set of lectures includes several guided meditations that you can use as a toolkit to help accept and abide with negative emotions, feel deeply supported and develop love and compassion for yourself and others. I listen to her instructions over and over always finding something new to deepen my practice. If you suffer from anxiety, resentment, feeling inadequate, anger, etc. these teachings and tools are a way through to light and love.
I appreciate listening to lectures, but not when it is titled as a book on tape. A very large portion of this "book on tape" are periods of silent meditation. While I appreciate the importance of silence, I feel like it is pretty misleading to list the length of this title. If I had known it was a series of lectures with meditation, I would not have bought it. I wish Pema would put her lectures online as podcasts like most teachers do, and save paid audiobooks for actual written content that has been worked on and edited. I am much happier with my Tara Brach books, which go into much more depth on the same topics.
again, there wasn't a narrator, there was a speaker giving a talk, which is a very different experience. I would have preferred narration.
Strong, and beautiful. Pema shows you through everyday examples and simple explanations the way. She never demeans or holds back. She leads, shows, tells, inspirws.
"A long distance retreat"
I took this audio book on holiday with me this summer and I got hooked both on Pema Chodron's teaching and her guided meditations, to the point that I kept going over the same ground again and again.
This is not fiction and there are no characters, but the concept of compassionate abiding was new to me and, I'm really glad that it has revolutionised my life.
On the background, one can hear Pema Chodron's students chuckling at her jokes, and a feeling of solidarity establishes itself between the listener and these invisible and distant people, until the listener feels part of the group on retreat.
"A beautiful teaching, just wonderful."
Pema Chodron inspires complete faith, delivering the practise in an accessible and meaningful way. I just love her!!! Truly wonderful.
