Publisher's summary

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

Only problem was the narrator at first

The story overall was great and I even liked the movie but the narrator I just didn’t like I pushed through and got used to it for the sake of liking the story.

One of my all-time favorites

Kate Reading is by far my favorite audiobook narrator. I had read this book when it first came out but she gave it new life. it's a great suspenseful story with awesome character development, but Kate Reading is definitely my favorite part of this book.

Fantastic reading!

As always, I saw the movie first, yet I was compelled to hear Meyer's story for all the delightful details. The reading was top notch, with the narrator able to switch seamlessly from one character's voice to another. She gave each character had a distinct voice that was not only different, but uniquely suited to their personality. Jeb's churlishness shone through in the gravelly quality of his voice. The calm, pleasant quality off Wanda's voice contrasted perfectly with Melanie's more energetic, forceful one. A stellar performance!

Mixed

Would you consider the audio edition of The Host to be better than the print version?

As my first download and listen, I am a little bored with the narrator. However I love the story and how it's keeping me wanting more.

Peaceful "Souls" from Outer Space Invasion

Would you consider the audio edition of The Host to be better than the print version?

I am enjoying both. I bought this on the Daily Deal forx1.99 and got the Audio from Audible for less than $4. Before this was so recently available I listened to the book I couldn't put down using my E-ink Kindle Keypad using "text to speech" I love this Audible awhyspersync option only when it's affordable. I would NEVER purchase the book and the audio if they were $8 for the book and. Over$10 for the Audio to waste my $15 monthly Audible credit. So thanks for getting together and making my raeding affordable and more enjoyable. Your company gets some $ I can afford..even if it's not what you'd normally charge. Some $ is better than no $ so I bet you are making a lot more money now than a year ago.

What other book might you compare The Host to and why?

It reminds me of Body Snatchers (alien parasites) AND District 9 (predjudice against intelligent peacefully aliens.

Which scene was your favorite?

Great descriptions of the mind talk/ memories and sharing between Wanderer and Melany.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I smiled often and thoroughly enjoyed it. It'd. Make a great movie.

Any additional comments?

Its much better than the atwilight Series.

Unexpected Delight

Any additional comments?

I have never read anything by Stephenie Meyer - Twilight is definitely not my thing - so I was very hesitant to give The Host a try. It was well worth it though. Loved the characters and the story, especially the growth in certain characters. The ending satisfied me completely. I will definitely look out from other non-Twilight offerings from this author.

Kate Reading was superb, as usual.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this book to all of my friends.

What did you like best about this story?

THE ENDING. I won't spoil it but I loved it!

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love the different voices she uses when speaking for the different characters.

Any additional comments?

I loved Twilight and The Hunger Games, but this book has to be my favorite. A very complicated love story. I laughed out loud and cried out loud. I will listen to it again in a few months. I know I will miss these wonderful and pure characters. Stephanie Meyers writes just for me! lol!
