The Host: A Novel: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience! *

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The Earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a new fans to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

A comfort read

I've always loved this book. I used to check it out at the library and finish it in 2 days every time. I was so excited when I found this version that had music woven into it. Way better than the movie.

I have watched the movies and read hundreds of books this one is the best one in a long time. I only wish there was more of it. not because it feels unfinished but because I don't want it to end. amazing job

I love this book!

I have read the hard back copy more times than I can count. I did like listening to it as well, it was a new experience. I must admit, I really expected a different voice for her!

Background music is unnecessary

The narrator was very good, and the story is really good. i didn't like the background music... it was distracting and more than little irritating. It didn't add anything to the story. i wished i could have turned it off. if the story wasn't so engaging, the background music would have ruined it.

Excellent Story

Loved reading this book. Would’ve enjoyed the audio more without the background music and sound effects. Took a long time to get used to. I have ADHD which is most likely why the background noise was too distracting for me. The reader did a great job though. Would definitely listed to again.

Can listen to again and again

I am not one to read or listen to books on repeat, but I absolutely love this one. The music and background noises make it very engaging and unique. I was unaware this was a different version with noise and music added, but it's awesome! I'm glad I got it

I read the Host as a book when I was a teenager and loved it (NOT the awful movie) so when I saw it on sale on Audible, I decided to go for it. I'd been listening to other past favorites like Howl's Moving Castle and Harry Potter. I've listened to it about four times now! Can't seem to stop! It's just such a fun listen. After the first time at 1.1x, I listen to it on 1.55x speed now. The narrator is great with voices (a little annoying how she says "Jamie", especially when the character saying it is crying or in distress, but that can't really be helped).

Overall a lovely book to read when you like post-apocalyptic clean romances, and a great audiobook to have running in the background or on long road trips or just momming/SAHM-ing.

The reader did an excellent job! I really enjoyed how she read and did the voices! The music added to the book.

Loved it

My son has been reading this book and I wanted to know what kind of books he was into. I loved the story line and the characters.

VERY Well written! Kept me interested!

I've had difficulty finding a story that keeps my attention, and isn't predictable or written in a way that somehow doesn't quite fit together or seems too far fetched (some murder/suspense will just go too far for the story in my opinion). This story fit well together in all its changes. I really enjoyed the way the writer's concept of pure kindness and love/peace was presented! The only reason I rated the performance down at all was because the narrator they chose performed many of her roles in a whiney/irritating way (my perception)- I had to stop listening for a while to get a break from her whining, and I don't think the writer intended for the character to be portrayed as whiney& annoying as she was performed much of the time in the reading. Great book!

WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE BOOK.

I absolutely LOVE this book and it will probably always be my all time favorite.

One thing I love about this book is how long it is. My favorite thing is reading or listening to a book that is long and interesting all the way through. It was long but there wasn’t one part that was boring, even the beginning when it felt a little slow. I’ve read this, and listened, many times and it’s never gotten old. From start to finish, I absolutely loved the character of Wanda. She’s one of my favorite characters and not just because she’s obviously the main character but because of what kind of person/soul she is. She’s probably my favorite character EVER, not just in this book. Thank you Stephanie Meyer for blessing the world with this character. I love Melanie as well, but she’s definitely not one of my favorites. I mostly loved Wanda and Melanie’s friendship/relationship, and how they grew from despising and fearing each other, to loving each other like family. It was just really beautiful. I really did not care for Jared, or Jared and Melanie’s relationship. First couple times I read it, yeah their love and relationship was sweet but eventually it just got old. And I just really started to feel like all they only truly cared about was each other, which i guess is understandable. But I really got to the point where I couldn’t stand it. Now who I really fell in love with was Ian O’Shea. Ian and Wanda just because my absolute favorites, and I completely fell in love with them. The character growth in Ian, and just really getting to know who he truly was, was amazing to me. I fall in love all over again with each read.
