Earth arms marines with alien technology and builds its first battle fleet! Kyle Riggs is snatched by an alien spacecraft sometime after midnight. The ship is testing everyone it catches and murdering the weak. The good news is that Kyle keeps passing tests and staying alive. The bad news is the aliens who sent this ship are the nicest ones out there.

A novel of military science fiction by best-selling author B. V. Larson, Swarm is the story of Earth's annexation by an alien empire. Long considered a primitive people on a backwater planet, humanity finds itself in the middle of a war - and faced with extinction.

Good Campy Fun

A good easy listen. Keep me interested in learning about what was happening and why. If you liked the first book of Troy Rising then you'll like this one. If you liked the first book of Troy Rising and wished the auther had kept his politics to himself, then you will REALLY like this one.

Very lite on the details, almost feels abridged

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. I enjoyed the story but there are way too many unanswered questions. At least things I'm naturally curious about. The ships that first appear in the skies, looking for commanders, so little is known about them even after completing the entire book. The regeneration process, after nano organisms are introduced into the body, takes how long for an arm or eye or foot?

Why was no one attempting to intercept communication transmissions of the enemy?

A ground war were the enemy has ZERO flying aircraft and only ONE friendly space craft is used for supporting ground troops?!

Destroyed alien technology would have been used to find vulnerabilities and advance Earth's military's ability to wage war.

If you???ve listened to books by B. V. Larson before, how does this one compare?

My first listen to a BV Larson book.

What about Mark Boyett???s performance did you like?

Good performance by the reader Mark Boyett.

Did Swarm inspire you to do anything?

Yes, to write this review.

Mark Boyett does fantastic job with this story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is Young Adult material. It is not the adult story line that I was looking for and seems to be aimed at 14 year old's level of imagination.

Would you recommend Swarm to your friends? Why or why not?

Only for mindless intertainment

Fun story and well written. Grabbed me from the first chapter and kept me going the whole way through. Can't wait to listen to the next 4 books in the series.

I resisted listening but an pleased I did

I've seen this series and reviews of it floating around for while now. I have been tempted to listen before but always decided against it.

I finally took the plunge and was pleasantly surprised. The story was solid even though the characters were predictable and pretty shallow. The action was excellent and I was well entertained the whole time.

This is a lot like watching a SciFi war movie, and was worth the time. I think I'll pick up the other books to listen to when I want something fun to listen to.

A little bit immature... wasn't a bad story

Any additional comments?

Ultimately my journey with this series ends here. The story wasn't awful, and I got the book on sale for $5. It's not good enough for a credit but I would consider getting the second one if it was on sale.

It reminds me of a story a bunch of drunk teens might write if they were hanging out in their mom's basement.

A robot arm destroys some guys entire family and 5 minutes later he wants to get down and dirty with some stranger. That's just the kind of stuff that you write up while laughing like Beavis and Butthead.

Nothing wrong with some mindless action here and there, but it's sort of average. I'll keep looking for something more compelling.

Sci-Fi Easy Listening

The title says it all: the book is easy to listen to. There is no ground-breaking sci-fi, no new ideas that will blow you away. The action scenes are well written but not too bloody. I found the book easy to while doing other things, and I look forward to finishing this series.
